We had the good fortune of connecting with Kemuel Browne and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kemuel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Freedom to express myself and to walk in my purpose. It’s so easy to just go with the flow as society has it setup, that we can miss our calling all together. I saw a need and wanted to use my expertise to find and provide solutions.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m so proud of my business FlyYoungIntellectual, LLC. F.Y.I. Is based on the principles of personifying mindset to aid in the journey to attaining success. I like to say it’s Deion Sanders’ bravado meets Kobe Bryant’s mamba mentality. [Fly] – If you look good you feel good which makes you perform well. [Young]- Youth is a mindset as it takes deliberate action both physically and mentally to stray away from stress and the things that drain our young energy as we get older. [Intellectual]- encourages free thought and doing the things necessary to attain knowledge while applying it. Under the F.Y.I. Umbrella are the FYI Management Group, which aids in the development and management of brands. Whether it’s campaign rollouts, messaging, brand strategy, branding identity we can help you elevate and take it to new heights. The FYI podcast where I discuss mindset, mental health, current events, branding and so much more. I also bring guests on the show who are excelling with their brands their way and we share their stories. The FYI School of Music completes the trifecta. Being a professional pianist and bassist for 15+ years, I’ve been blessed to have music take me around the world. I love to teach and share my knowledge with those wanting to start, sharpen, or find new direction with my unique style of teaching. Music is a beautiful art form that allows one to challenge the mind and body. I also am a merch designer, that has put out two collections so far the first being “The FYI Revolution Editon”, that empowered people of Color to use their voice during this crucial time of getting the social justice we deserve and the FYI “AIM” Collection which introduced people to the core values that the brand is built on.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta is a beautiful city. I love it here, and I’m always excited to check out what t has to offer. Food holds the keys to my heart. So first I’m definitely taking people to a good restaurant. It depends on the mood, but there are so many dope Asian cuisine spots. Some of my fav are Food Terminal, Tuk Tuk, Ginya. If you’re feeling for some good chicken, Harold’s, and Hattie B’s. Brunch on a weekend South City Kitchen. The botanical garden is such a vibe. I love going there with my lady and being out in nature with beautiful flowers and being outdoors is therapeutic. If you need a good workout check out The Loft Athletic Club over in midtown. Black-owned and the trainers will get you right! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to Shoutout one of my mentors Fredrick Douglass Bussey. I met Fred playing open gym basketball, and my car was down so he would give me a lift to and from the gym. Those conversations that we would have were priceless. From mindset to just getting started right where I was, he really gave me some small but powerful missing pieces that I needed to take the leap and get out of my comfort zone. He has a book that he wrote called “Breaking Orbit” that’s a great motivational read as well.
