We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Price and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelsey, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’m a hair stylist and makeup artist. I’ve worked in Atlanta about two years and Savannah GA nearly nine years. I left my old salon nearly 6 years ago when it was harder to walk into the environment and culture of the salon than the work or clients.. I’ve always loved the beauty industry so when I wasn’t enjoying it I realized I could fix that and work for myself and completely curate my environment. It immediately made a difference and I’ve never looked back!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always been interested in the beauty industry, I’m third generation. My grandmother and my mom both did hair. So I sort of grew up around it. Neither of them worked behind the chair when I was growing up so I didn’t really understand the potential of this industry til I was 20 and going to beauty school in Alpharetta, Georgia at Paul Mitchell the school Esani. Now I work in the low country which has the highest number of destination weddings in the states between Savannah and Charleston. I think the weddings were what surprised me the most how much I enjoy being part of that big day and helping women feel their best for their biggest moments. I think some thing that sets me apart from other stylist is that I truly care about my work. I truly care if my clients are happy. I am willing to reworks something if it isn’t exactly what they/I expected.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It’s hard to go wrong with the food in Savannah, some of the best restaurants in the south. I love having brunch at the ordinary pup or Collins quarter, I also enjoy going to a rooftop bar for a happy hour beverage to watch the sunset. The Perry lane and the Alita hotel of two of my favorite spots. Lots of live music and the energy of Savannah is just lovely.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely believe the mentors I had early in my career made me better than I could have expected at the time. Adrienne Gutierrez, and Isabelle Delo. They both spent time teaching me and working with me to really learn my craft. Adrienne is one of the most dedicated educators I’ve ever encountered I’m so thankful for his support.
