We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly Meholic and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelly, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
The Alpharetta Symphony has experienced this question in many forms and degrees over the past 10 years, since our founding in 2014. Sometimes just reviewing our mission, vision, and values can bring us clarity and lead us to an answer on whether or not to pursue an endeavor. Other times it helps to ask ourselves individually and as an organization, “Where do we want to be in 1 year? 5 years? 10 years?” This allows us to step out of the oh-so-visceral-present and into the desired outcomes we want to create for our future; individually, organizationally, and for the the Alpharetta and North Fulton community.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One of my favorite things about the Alpharetta Symphony is that I am constantly amazed by the talent and generosity of our community, it truly blows my mind. It is because of this that we have continued to grow and overcome the challenges. We have the best people!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love trying different restaurants and there some excellent options all around Alpharetta, from mouthwatering Caribbean to some of the best BBQ in the state to bowls of ramen that could warm any heart. There are great options for shopping as well, from the shoppes at Avalon to our partners and friends at North Point Mall–where you might even catch a chamber music or symphony performance if you time it right!
For a night out though? You have to go to the downtown district for shopping, dinner, maybe get a cocktail at The Hamilton Hotel, and then come see the Alpharetta Symphony for an unforgettable evening of music!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes! I would love to dedicate my “shoutout” to the Alpharetta Symphony.
My story is very much a “Who rescued who?” kind of story. The Alpharetta Symphony had about 12 musicians when I joined in 2015, and I had just turned 30 and was searching for some purpose. My initial goal was to “play” in an orchestra, not “build” an orchestra, but little by little the challenges of creation began to captivate me. What can I say? I am a sucker for an origin story. Alongside some of the best, brightest, and hardest working people and musicians you could find, we have worked together to create something that the entire community can gather around and enjoy.
