We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly Dasher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelly, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Well, I had a change of life experience a couple of years before starting my business. I got divorced, moved towns, and had to change careers from being an on-site dance instructor. Luckily, I met the love of my life and a super supportive partner, who also photographs too, Kevin during this time – who has been key in this business. I took on some different jobs at this point too, some not so great and one I actually got injured at. A few years before this I found myself taking some picture at local Cyclocross races and really enjoyed it and people started asking if they could purchase some of my shots, so they could print it. Unfortunately with the equipment I had, the files just weren’t big enough. In between jobs, I found a really worn out Canon Rebel DSLR that had Pope High School from Goodwill and started taking pictures with that and that was the start! I had so much fun doing it and after having those not so awesome experiences in the workplace — it was my dream to do something I truly love and have a passion for and could have the amazing experience in working hard for myself. I feel so lucky every day because of this!!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Art has always been apart of my life. Drawing and painting is something I’ve done almost since birth. Photography is something I found later in life. We do a lot of sports photography — which I absolutely love but lately I’ve been branching out into some other types of photography – weddings, real estate, headshots, family portraits, etc. You can see that we do sports photography in all other forms of photography. No condition really scares us – we’ve pretty much done it all in every type of weather and lighting condition.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since I live OTP, we would definitely be headed towards the mountains at some point! We are based out of Woodstock, and downtown Woodstock is a blast. First we’d head to Reformation Brewery in the heart of the city and grab some beverages and possibly some wings at the Daily Draft or check out the food truck at Truck n Tap next door. Then we’d grab our bikes and go to Blankets Creek in Canton, GA. – Its a must! Then get our kayaks and go to Rope Mill Park and paddle to the waterfall.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Kevin is my boyfriend, my life partner — who has been by my side this entire journey and takes photos too. Also, Lisa and Chris from Mountain Goat Adventures who gave me a shot when I first started out! Dawn and Jason from Chainbuster Racing as well!
