Meet Kelichia | Writer, Director, & Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelichia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelichia, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
The art of creativity has always been a big passion of mine. I can remember writing little songs when I wasn’t even in my teenage years. I come from a pretty talented family. Music was and has been of great influence on many of my passionate pursuits. I had a phase, in life, where I wrote poetry to keep my feelings in check. It was my soothing method. I eventually turned many of my poems into songs. I incorporated several of them in my stage play, which receive many accolades. I continue to pursue a creative career, because I enjoy bringing what I imagine to life. It aligns my soul and rejuvenates my visions.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a writer, director, and producer. My creative career started in 2007, when I published my first book, The Men That Stole My Soul. It’s a book that entails true life situations that I’d gone through in my early adulthood. In July 2022, I premiered my stage play (same title) to show myself exactly what I am made of. I’m a woman who holds many talents, and I wanted to impact those who participated in seeing my life-story unfold on the stage. It was truly an amazing moment in my life. I had planned to create and produce a theatrical production for years. However, life happened, and procrastination set in. I allowed years to go by and my spirit to be broken. Once I gained my writing momentum back and edited my script on multiple occasions, I knew that I was ready to take the next step to become a director and producer as well. I was blessed to have the financial backing necessary to fund all that is involved in a production. I conducted the casting call and interviews. I hired all the moving parts that are needed to make a production stick and move. Through challenges of depression stages and discouraging moments, I knew that I had to keep my fire burning inside of me. I had a story that the world needed to see. I am so glad I kept prayer and meditation in my space. I am thankful for those individuals who stepped up to assist me. I learned that I can’t do everything on my own. A team is definitely needed to take some of the burden of being a “boss” off of me. I want the world to know that more of Kelichia’s works will be coming. Get ready for a powerhouse. I’ve never deemed myself to be a survivor. I’m a victor, and victory shall be mine.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m normally a homebody. However, one of my favorite pastimes is karaoke. I’d take my bestie to whatever spot hosts the best karaoke night. I’d also be sure to see if I can find a spot that hosts live music. Other than that, you’d probably find me hosting a soiree of my own, for friends to enjoy.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to take this time to send a shoutout to one of my biggest, most genuine supporters, Gary Roane, I’ve know him for many years. We were introduced by a mutual military friend, and have been in each other’s corners for a long while. Since our introduction, during my military time, he’s been the big brother I’ve never had. He ensures that I know his support for me is unwavering. Thank you, big bro.
