We had the good fortune of connecting with Keith Elgin Douglas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keith Elgin, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“Thoughts Become Things” This quote is in the family of positive thinking: for me it means if I believe in my heart that anything is possible – it will come to be. It encourages me to be faithful, to be positive in my thoughts because those thoughts become action be it positive or negative. I thought about an idea for a horror short. It “became” a script, and it is now a short film: ” SE7EN DA7S” thoughts do become things.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am currently in rehearsals for August Wilson’s ” Jitney,” which opens Sept. 9 and runs through Oct at the Sewell Mill Cultural Center. I just completed a horror short, written by me, starring myself and Lance Avery Brown and Directed by Jalen Smith, “SE7EN DAYS” it will begin it Festival run very soon. I can be seen in “Stealing Grace,” written by Candace West, Directed by Jose Navarro, at Black Film Fest ATL. I am currently. working on another horror short and a drama which introduces characters for an upcoming series
Every artist knows what sets them apart from others is they are unique as an individual. Our journeys are our own and this is what I bring to the table, my unique, individual story that is part of the common human experience, but again uniquely my own journey.
This journey is never easy, but your perception of the journey and gratitude is where you find you joy, and that joy fuels you to keep going and discovering and growing.
I would like the world to know about my brand and story, and when they do, they will know that “thoughts become things.” They will know that the artist in me is always searching, discovering and they are invited on a journey that will be riveting in its honest passion.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to Pinch N’ Ouch Theatre and The New Marietta Theatre on The Square for some new, exciting theater. For dinner, drinks, and atmosphere Ponce City Market Rooftop; maybe check out The Apache for some spoken Word.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to like to thank my mom who passed away a few years ago for always supporting, loving me, and teaching to love myself. My sister Mildred and her constant support also the reason I moved to Atlanta and re-started pursuing my passion. Jalen Smith @bluejayproduction company. We are producing partners check out the IG page please. The author James Baldwin (whom I’d love to portray on stage or film) Mr. Baldwin fueled my thirst for literature, and Sister Scholastica for turning the flame even higher.
