We had the good fortune of connecting with Keisha Pierre and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keisha, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’ve always had a love for food from young age, whether it was shadowing various family members in the kitchen or sneaking food while they were cooking. As I grew older, I took that love for food to a kitchen of my own. My favorite pastime is seeing friends and family eat and enjoy my cooking. I started recording my meals and posting them via social media where my friends and family would often ask me for the recipe or to bring them a plate. One of my cousins gave me the name chefkeish and from there I started EatzbyKeish.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
EatzbyKeish is a black and woman owned catering company. We pride ourselves on customer service; because it goes beyond the food. Customer service makes or breaks the consistent relationship between a business and its customers. Starting EatzbyKeish wasn’t an easy or overnight journey, but one that took a lot of research, time, and dedication. I’ve learned in business or just life you’ll always stumble or even fall but make sure you get back up. There’s a quote, “Closed mouths don’t get fed and lazy hands don’t count bread” that replays in my mind daily especially when I find myself wanting to give up, along with the support and encouragement from some of my friends and family I keep going.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I currently reside in New York, famously known as, “The Big Apple & The city that never sleeps.” For breakfast I’d take them to get a bacon, egg, and cheese on a roll from a corner store — that’s a must.
Things to do would be:
Shopping: Time Square, Soho, and 5th Ave just to name a few locations.
Attractions: Brooklyn Museum, Museum of Ice Cream, Ice Skating at Bryant Park, a show on Broadway.
Food: An NY slice from a pizzeria, a slice of strawberry cheesecake from Juniors in Brooklyn, curry goat, roti & doubles from Trinciti in Queens. Lastly, I’d end the day with dinner at Kandela in Queens, they serve the best margaritas and tacos (my favorite flavor is passion fruit); strong yet tasty.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would have to say my mom. My mom has played a tremendous role in my love for cooking throughout the years and pushes me to take my business serious. She’s always told me to do what makes me happy and do it proud. I remember growing up, my mom would cook every other day and I would be right next to her. On weekends once my homework was completed I was able to be more hands on in the kitchen. The first thing I learned how to make was lasagna, to this day it’s still one of my favorite dishes.
