We had the good fortune of connecting with Keisha Barnes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keisha, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Iam from Columbia,SC. I grew up on a dirt road, very humble beginnings. Looking back some May consider it a rural area, but in my eyes we were rich because I never lacked anything. I spent a lot of my time with my grandmother and a lot of the elders in the community. I had the opportunity to soak in a lot of wisdom and knowledge at an early age. The community leaders, fought hard for proper sewage service in our community. They knew what the community deserved, and needed, and didn’t stop until they received it. I feel like that spirit of undeniable faith, courage, and strength is embedded within me, and has molded me into the woman Iam today.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Iam the proud owner of The Sweet Shopp Columbia. We are a customer based business, that strives to go above and beyond the expectations of each customer. Our customer service, quality of products, and expertise is what sets us apart from any other sweet shop in the COUNTRY! Before starting this treat business, I had a clothing line that did very well in my area. It really pushed me as a business owner, and creator in my city. With that a lot of people started to notice me and become familiar with me as a brand owner. So as I started to transition into a treat maker it was relatively easy because I’d already gained the trust of my peers. It was just seeing me display my talents in a different way.
The one thing I’ve learned and I tell anyone else creating food is, clients eat with their eyes. If the food looks nasty the public will assume it’s nasty. The one thing I’d love for the world to know is that our main focus is the quality of each order that exits the building. We can guarantee that your order will both look great, and taste incredible!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a fried visiting me, I’d show her around the city. One of the first places we’d visit would be “Rooted Vibrationz” purchase some jewelry, oil, candle and incense. Our next stop would be the “Flawless by T.K.” Hair salon and enjoy a relaxing shampoo, and style. From there I’d take her to “So Fancy & Co.” for a facial and massage. Lastly we’d end the day at my favorite two stores, Hobby Lobby, and Target for a little retail therapy.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely! My shoutout is dedicated to my parents.
Because of you I am! Thank you for the sacrifices, the drive, and the hustle.
