We had the good fortune of connecting with KD Boyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KD, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
HEY! Hydrate came out of programming that we were doing with the youth that were selling waters on metro Atl street corners. With mounting bad press from the actions of a few bad apples and the city cracking down on water sales, HEY! Stepped in to show that it could be done safely and be profitable for they young entrepreneurs.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My non profit, Helping Empower Youth was started by myself and my partner Kacey Venning. Our mission is to inspire, motivate, and mobilize youth to take action that changes their world. We are proud to offer quality programming and services to youth to include STEM, READING, and leadership skills. We serve the entire child with wrap around services that strive for tangible, measurable outcomes. It was not easy meeting all these needs in totality! What sets us apart is both of us as co founders have a unique set of skills learned from our respective life experiences, hers being a non profit professional and mine being a Marine veteran. We got where we are today with consistently doing what we say, and providing programming to a forgotten populace in need. We want the world to know that HEY! Is here to stay and we are most excited about our upcoming HEY! Hydrate! Initiative.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
That’s easy! We are going fishing! Doing some skeet shooting, and depending on the season, a little hunting. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Edgewood Pizza definitely deserves a shout out. They have been feeding and employing children in our programs for years.
