We had the good fortune of connecting with KC Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi KC, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
In 2010, I took the biggest leap of my career. I left a decent, stable, government job to produce a TV pilot I had written called, Boulevard West. I contacted an actor/director friend of mine, the late Tommy Ford, and asked if he wanted to be involved. He immediately said yes! So I took my life savings (at that time about $25,000), raised another $30K from private investors and set about making my dream come true. It was stressful and there were plenty of times that I thought, what the h— have I done! But what I learned about taking risks is that it’s okay to fail. To try and learn from your mistakes. That pilot was turned into an award-winning web series and it gave me the confidence to make a career out of writing and taught me that my greatest strength is ideas.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I had my first job out of college and friend of my dad gave me the best career advice I’ve ever received. He said to always grow my knowledge by connecting with other people in my field and not get caught up in cliques and office politics. It has served me my entire career. I worked my way to head of copy by leveraging my skills with every position. I would stay late and learn every process or software related to my job, and as I moved forward I took that knowledge with me. What I’ve always been confident of are my capabilities in the workplace. I’m an excellent writer and my creativity is high level. I know for sure that my genius is ideas and so I am never afraid to lean into that. Getting to where I am has not been easy. In fact, I had to overcome many challenges, and what I’d tell any young professional is to always stand up for yourself. Going the extra mile is great, but don’t let people take advantage of you. And money isn’t everything, go where you’re valued.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I LOVE Midtown and East Atlanta. I love hanging out on the Beltline and having drinks at one of the many restaurants or bars with a patio. It’s a great place to chill with friends and just people watch, and also to get in a little exercise if you feel like a walk or want to hop on a rented scooter or bike. I would try to catch a show. I’ve been to several theatres around town and I like to catch shows at the Ferst Center at GA Tech or the Southwest Atlanta Arts Center. My favorite things is live music, so I’d probably head down to Sweet Georgia’s Juke Joint. When I want a good brunch vibe I go to Fin & Feathers in Midtown, excellent food, great service and all the 90s hip hop and R&B I love!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My forever go-to person for professional advice and encouragement is my aunt Jewell Winn. She’s the most successful person I know and has a tenacious drive to succeed at everything she does. She’s always been a mentor and she taught me to be confident and always go for whatever I wanted.
