Meet Kaylin Garnett | Clothing brand owner & medical professional

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaylin Garnett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaylin, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I decided to pursue an artistic career because it allows me to express myself in an environment without being judged or put into a category. If a female is seen wearing clothing that is categorized as being masculine then she is categorized as being a tomboy or gay. If a male is seen wearing clothing that is portrayed as female clothing then he is seen as gay. If a person watches anime and wears certain clothing then they are seen as weird. The world has placed labels on everything we do down to what we wear and watch during our free time. I created my brand to serve as a safe place and a place where people will not be afraid to wear what they like. Most clothing brands have categories labeled “women” or “men” and Kulture does not. Kulture’s mission statement is “a safe space where each person can use fashion to convey their unique perspective on the world within a community destined for greatness”. My brand is unisex and I want Kulture to motivate other brands to stop putting labels on things and just let people express themselves through fashion.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I work for a local hospital as my full time job. During my free time I would draw and create designs that my patients and coworkers said I should sell. I also work in a local shoe store and I have been obsessed with shoes since before I could remember. Every time I buy a new pair of shoes I never know what go wear with them because most people wear the same colors or same concept. One day I decided to take my coworkers advice and I created mg very first Tshirt. I have learned that it is okay to be different and not everyone will support you along the way. I want the world to know that it is okay to be different and stop putting labels on people. I am different from other brands because I am a female owned brand.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friend downtown to see the amazing view of the water. I also would walk around downtown so that the murals painted on the walls would be seen. There is a restaurant called Metro Dinner, and we would eat there. Metro Dinner is known for their amazing chicken and waffles.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents deserve credit in my upcoming and the upcoming of Kulture. My parents have supported me every step of the way throughout the process of me starting my brand. I would also like to thank God because without his help I would not be where I am today. Last but not least I would like to thank my supporters and customers. Without customers and my support system Kulture would not be able to grow.
