Meet Kayleigh Moreland | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayleigh Moreland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kayleigh, what is the most important factor behind your success?
To me, the most important part about being successful is to trust your gut, believe in the work you’re creating, and stay true to yourself. If I’m creating art that I don’t like, then what’s the point? Creating a piece of work that I despise would not be an accurate representation of myself. Art to me is creating work that I’m passionate about and that I actually enjoy making, and if I’ve done that, then I consider it a success.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My photography is known for being colorful, transformative, fun, and intuitive. My favorite work typically revolves around fashion and creating bold, sometimes dream-like imagery with a team. Collaboration is one of the most exciting things to me, because being surrounded by like-minded creatives help me thrive. However, I also believe one of the best feelings is during post-processing, whenever I am able to escape into the digital editing world of Lightroom and Photoshop. The ability to transform photos beyond their original state and create it into whatever you want, or to freeze a moment in time that you wouldn’t see in everyday life, never gets old to me and reminds me why I chose to pursue this art. I would say one of the hardest challenges now’a’days is how to deal with social media. Sometimes I fall into a pattern of comparing my work to others or being disappointed if one of my photos doesn’t get as much engagement as I’d hoped. Something that has helped me overcome that is reminding myself that social media doesn’t determine if my art has value or not, I do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh, I wish my best friend were here right now! If she were in Savannah, GA, right now I definitely would plan some things for us to do. First up on the list (and the most important), we would HAVE to go for bottomless mimosas and brunch at The Ordinary Pub on Broughton St. Then, of course, we would have to allot time for a mid-day nap from the mimosas. After our nap, we would go shopping around town–maybe hit some vintage stores such as House of Strut, Future on Forsyth Civvies, or Gypsy World. Aside from those things, I would probably also want to take her for a stroll around Forsyth and walk down by the river!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Although I have tons of support from family and friends, I would not be the person I am today without my first photography teacher, Clint Smith, of Texas High School. I have told many people that my skills are a direct product of his teaching of photography and allowed me to gain the confidence to even think about pursuing a career in commercial photography. If it weren’t for him, I would not be the photographer I am today.
