We had the good fortune of connecting with KayLee Michelle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi KayLee, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
“A bad situation was the reason that a great opportunity was birthed” Hi, I’m KayLee Michelle and I was inspired to share my adventures with the world after being disappointed about losing a writing contest at school. I was also disappointed about how a new student in my class was not able to make friends as easily as I did. I was especially concerned about kids who moved to new places and had to make new friends. I believe that I am far from average, and very sensitive to and mindful of things that kids like me have to transition through daily. I too have been the new student before due to family changes. My life has taken a lot of turns these last 8 years. It has been an adventure. When I came home with the bad news, my mommy, Hashondra, published author and founder of Manifest A Deliverance (MAD), encouraged me to turn a not-so-good situation into opportunity and purpose that would change my life and the lives of others. In MAD, my mommy encourages participants to ‘get MAD the right way,’ helping them find ways to channel negative energy into positivity, in a safe space. My mommy was the first author in our family and because of her and my cousin Angel, I was able to create my very own adventure book series. I have also created a shoe called “WormLee’s” to encourage kids to hip-hop into new reading adventures. My best friend WormLee loves to make new friends, and so do I.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an 8-year-old third-grader, who’s an author, entrepreneur, artist, entertainer and honor reading student. I travel near and far to share my interactive adventure-filled books with friends all over the world. The “Let’s Be Friends” series (available in both English and Spanish) is a collection of adventures that help children learn about themselves, and the world around them. My adventure books also help to connect community and family. Although there are a lot of great authors, entrepreneurs, artists, and entertainers; I believe what sets me apart from others is that I am my own unique person. No one could ever be KayLee Michelle but me. Only I am able to live out my dreams, and my visions. Only I can express the artistic, creative thoughts in my mind. There can be many people named KayLee Michelle BUT there can only be one ME! Knowing that there can only be one me, is one thing that I am most proud of! I am proud of knowing that I am great, at the age of 8. I know that I want everyone to have a friend. I can be their friend or help them to make friends. I think that without friends, life would not be that much fun, and life should be an adventure! I want everyone to experience an adventure. I want everyone to be kind and loving to each other. Wanting everyone to have friends is one reason that I wrote my books! Need I remind you how disappointed I was when a new student in my class was not able to make friends as easily as I did. She was shy and I really wanted to help. I became friends with her and she is still my friend today! Friendship can be easy “BUT” it can also be hard sometimes. The big “Rona” (Covid-19) has caused me not to see my friends as much as I would like to. I’m a kid! I wanna play with my friends and eat lots of pizza, candy, and maybe a carrot or two! Staying home from school and not being able to do my book tour this year has been a challenge. No worries, I am making lemonade out of this bitter situation. Thank God for the internet!!!!!! I am able to keep in touch with my friends online. Guess what else?! “Okay! I’ll tell ya.” I’ve even made some new friends in my virtual modeling and acting class that I’m taking at John Casablancas. I have learned so much and I am excited about learning even more. While on my adventures I have learned many lessons. One lesson that keeps repeating over and over and over again is the lesson of being yourself. I hear it all the time “be yourself KayLee”! The hardest part of that lesson is that I’m still learning more about me everyday. Not only am I learning more about me, I’m showing the world more about me. One thing that I want the world to know about KayLee Michelle, is that I will always be ready for an adventure! I will always be ready to make a new friend, and I will always do my best to be a great friend! So if you’re having trouble making friends, or you just want to make a few new friends, hop into a KayLee Michelle adventure book, and let’s take an adventure!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my best friends take an adventure with me, we will have so much to see. Like the sea! Well the ocean! Maybe I’ll just call it the beach. We would burry ourselves in the sand and then find the biggest wave to jump into. After the beach I am usually ready for a hot slice of pizza and a soda. A sprite to be extract. One served in a cup so large that my head disappears in it when I drink. After eating all that yummy pizza, there would be no better place to take my best friend than to park. To get to the best park ever, we would have to ride over the largest bridge in Georgia, the Sidney Lanier Bridge. I love looking down at the water. I’m sure that my best friend would love to look at the water to. OR maybe not. Usually when I’m at the park I get to see some of the most interesting people. Everyone goes to the park. I’ve seen my doctor at the park, Mayor Harvey at the park, even my neighbor and her dog at the park. Taking my best friend to the park would be at great place for me to introduce them to more of my friends. Everyone knows KayLee Michelle. I’m kind of a lil superstar around here! Just like I’m kind of a super reader at school. We would have to and visit my school. I really would want my best friend to meet my teachers. I’m sure that my teacher would tell us to go see light house on the island. We talked about it in class. There is so much history in Brunswick, Georgia! I want to make sure that I become a part of it. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Right Now I want to give a shoutout to a few people that have helped me on my “Let’s Be Friends” adventures! I want to first give a shoutout to my mommyger (Hashondra) and cousinger (Angel Harmon) for helping my dream of being an author come true. They are thePinkGroup! They are my family! They are my managers! I love them! I also want to give a shoutout to my grandmother for helping me with school and teaching me so much more than school ever could! I am so smart. With my grandmother’s help, I have learned to love math. Maybe I should write a book about it. I want to give a shout out to my sister Cianie for slaying my edges and keeping all my secrets. We can never tell mommy what really happened the day the fire alarms went off. Lastly I want to thank EVERYONE who has supported me in any way! I have met some amazing friends and i can’t wait to meet even more friends along the way! Friends just like you!
