We had the good fortune of connecting with KAYLAH BIASED and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi KAYLAH, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My design company helps the community by showcasing people of color in a positive way and creating opportunities for people in the community who are often seen as a underdog or less than. I strive each and everyday to create art and opportunities that will help elevate our community and people.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am originally from Tampa, Fl. Tampa is a city where I grew a love for art. My hometown has beautiful people, food, beaches and overall an amazing culture. I began photographing events at church and then I began working with an amazing artist named Indie Reece. He gave my first opportunity to work with different cameras , models and people in the industry. After that, I began working on my craft in photography and really mastering the art. I photographed weddings, models, concerts , events , you name it I photographed. 2015-2016, I transitioned to Atlanta, Ga , where I began designing for artists and photographing awards shows. I have faced many challenges being a black queer woman of color. But I never gave up because I know I was designed for greatness. My faith and my family encouraged me to continue on. That meant the world because having support means the world especially when your working in the entertainment industry. After I few set backs , I went back to the drawing board and focused on my design company. BIASEDARTLAND was founded and created by me. I have worked very hard to make a name for myself in the art and entertainment industry. I am inspired by my mother and artist like Warhol, Basquiat, and Hype Williams. I want the world to know and understand is was not easy getting to where I am now. I literally worked a fulltime job everyday and chased my dreams at the same time. Through all my highs and lows , I never lost the faith. Without God I am nothing. Keep the faith and keep grinding. The best is yet to come!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was coming to Atlanta for the weekend I would take him or her to all the art museums and this restaurant called Pasha.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shoutout my good friend and artist Royalnaire Richie. He’s truly one of the most amazing people and he creates amazing music. His grind and dedication inspires me to continue creating and providing opportunities for artists, creatives and designers. His music can be found on all social media platforms. If you ever needed to be uplifted or encouraged to continue your dreams listen to his music and it will keep you going.
