We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayla, how do you think about risk?
No risk, no reward! Starting my own business was a huge risk. Being that I was the first in my family to start a business with an LLC, I was scared out of my mind! I truly had no idea if I would be wasting my time, wasting my money, wasting my ideas.. but I took the risk. Taking risks are worth it with a plan of execution. Taking risks on my business has not only helped me with my personal development, but has also motivated others to face their fears. Life is short! Do it and give it all you’ve got!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Titans and Tiaras is an online Children’s boutique carrying clothing from newborn to 6T. What sets us apart is that we focus on being a one stop shop for children from birth through toddler years. We specialize in streetwear and our items are items you will never see in stores. I am most proud of the exposure that it’s gotten locally and the impact that it’s made when it comes to building relationships. Our main shoppers are aunts, grandparents, and Godparents, so being apart of the gift giving process has been amazing. I have had amazing business mentors to assist, motivate and correct during this journey. This has not been easy, but very much worth it! The lessons are still coming, but the best lesson I’ve learned has been “people buy from who they know, like and trust.” To me, this means that it’s more than just selling items. It’s building relationships.
I want to world to know that Titans and Tiaras may not be a Children’s Place or a Osh Kosh, but we are a boutique that cares. We cater to exactly what your looking for, options are endless and you will never be unhappy with the relationships you’re able to build with us and through us.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Favorite spots in the city… food-wise, we MUST hit up Bar Solita for brunch, Sidewalk Cafe for dinner and drinks. The Beetbox RVA is a great place for smoothie bowls and juices. Night out? We’re hitting Mona Lounge! We have to get outside because the vitamin D is necessary! We’re hitting Brown’s Island and the Art Walk.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Maya Harris and Lois Jolley for honest mentorship! My fiancé Markeem Lassiter for being my assistant, my manager and my planner. My mom and sister for pulling up ALWAYS!
