We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Bashe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayla, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success as an entrepreneur/MUA is simply having faith; I strongly believe that faith is the foundation for success because there would be no point in exercising patience if I did not believe I was waiting for something, or perseverance if i did not believe that what I am believing for is attainable, so faith is my greatest attribute, definitely the reason I am still here!
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I want the world to know my story and know that it is not my own; that God is the author of my life and with God anything is possible. I want people to know that I am not just a pretty face, that there’s a lot of substance and purpose behind Kayla Bashe & She by Bashe. A slogan that I love and live by is “makeup is art, beauty is spirit,” it’s a reminder that regardless of what She by Bashe is built up to be, to never get ahead of myself..a reminder to myself and my clients that regardless of what enhancements you make to your appearance, your spirit is what makes you who you are… that is what She by Bashe is about, not just looking good, but being good as well.
Integrity is what sets me apart from others and it is also what I am most proud of myself for choosing to live in, especially in these times where everyone is willing to sell their soul for a piece of the pie; Knowing that I can’t be bought is what keeps me going.
Entrepreneurship is not an easy path. Honestly, It has been an extremely challenging journey for me because not only am I fighting to break patterns in my own life, but I am also fighting to break generational curses in my family. I am the first millionaire in my family (hypothetically speaking.) That being said, the pressure to not only create something, but create something from nothing is like none other. I don’t come from a financially stable or financially literate background; The goals that I’ve set for myself, the life that I see for myself is just that, a vision, but I know that a vision with God’s provision is a dream come true so I find peace in that.
I know that my purpose is so much bigger than me and that’s probably the greatest lesson I’ve learned thus far, the greatest and the hardest lesson, because acknowledging that takes a lot of courage and courage, although so empowering is still so scary because Courage requires humility, and humility requires acknowledging that no matter how important you think you are, you are only star dust in what seems to be an infinite universe. It humbles you, but in humility is where you find who you truly are and why you’re really here.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Believe it or not, I haven’t seen all of Atlanta myself. I have only recently decided to come out of my shell and get out more. Little Five Points is one of my favorite places to visit though, because there’s a lot of different people + things to do so we’d visit little five points for sure!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Glory to God! I am so grateful for the people that God has placed in my life that has contributed to the growth of me and my business, but I am not naive to the fact that it is only by the grace of God that I am here + able to do what I do, how I do it. So Shoutout to God for giving me the blueprint, and shoutout to me for following through.
