We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayhla Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayhla, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor that attributes to my success is that fact that I don’t quit. I’m a pretty resilient person. I don’t let anyone or anything stop me. Not even what some people consider failures. I’ve experienced some adversity on this journey, Especially getting through graduate level schooling. But I simply did not quit. I really believe that’s the secret sauce to anyone’s success. That’s really the only thing that separates those who achieve their goals and those that don’t. When you know your purpose to have to be relentless in your pursue to live out that purpose. You can plan and try to predict but there will always be some kind of adversity. Just look at what happened in 2020. No one saw that coming and we had so many expectations for that year. You have to be able to adapt and change accordingly.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Doctor of Chiropractic which specializes in musculoskeletal conditions. I diagnose and treat mechanical disorders of the body. Chiropractors treat conditions manually by “adjusting” the spine without drugs or surgery. When being adjusted you may hear a “popping” sound hence my tag line “SHE POPPIN.” The most common conditions I treat are headaches, neck pain, upper-lower back pain, sciatica, backpain from pregnancy, etc. My journey to become a chiropractor started with my desire to go into the health care field. I started by going to Philander Smith College which is a small, private, HBCU in my hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas. That is where I obtained my Bachelors degree in Biology. About a year later I went to Logan University in St. Louis, Missouri where I completed my Masters of Science in Nutrition simultaneously with my Doctor of Chiropractic Degree which I completed in 2014. In addition to those degrees, I also completed my Acupuncture Certification. I am currently licensed in Arkansas and Georgia. The main reason I got into Chiropractic was to be able to treat and educate people in my community. Chiropractic is about teaching people to live a healthy lifestyle and functioning at your highest potential. It is unfortunate that many people don’t know there is a different way to live. You don’t have you be on medication the rest of your life for a chronic illness. You can take control of your health if you are proactive about changing your diet and keep your body moving the way it is suppose to. Your quality of life could be so much better. So I make it my duty to educate every patient I encounter based on their individual needs. It wasn’t an easy journey to get where I am. I went through 10 years of school and I have now been practicing over 6 years. Again, every time I had a minor failure I would just keep going. But it was totally worth it. I can genuinely say I love what I do. I love to watch patient’s journey to wellness. I treat every person that walks in my treatment room like family. I love being able to facilitate the transition from dis-ease or disfunction, to health. Being able to watch people function at their highest potential is very fulfilling.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my friends come to visit me I would first have them picked up from the airport by BK Global Luxury limo service. They can listen to my girl Ms. Basketball on V103 while riding so they can get turned up for the weekend. Then we would go to brunch at Breakfast at Barneys. The food is phenomenal and the one of the owners Dr. Sanford is a fellow chiropractor. We would then head to the beltline to walk off all the food we ate while enjoying all the Atlanta art and culture it has to offer. The next day I would set up a picnic for us with Poshnic ATL at Piedmont Park. They provide a dope outdoor setup with food and wine. At night we would hit up Blue Martini for a night out on the town. At some point we would go eat at Roc South restaurant which is one of my favorite restaurants. And since I’m all about health and wellness, we have to go to my girl Simply Tone’s workout class at the Finao Fit Gym.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my parents who support every decision no matter if they understand it or not.
