Meet Kay Simone | An artist with a beautiful soul.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kay Simone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kay, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Being inspired by hip-hop has been a lifelong journey, me being an artist at heart almost wanted to be a rapper but that did not work out because I knew that was a special craft I really need to work on. So in my mind creating a platform for women who work at this beautiful craft, was the next best thing. I really feel like these hip-hop-based media outlets only reported the beef and not the art. So art is what I wanted to focus on, so I did just that.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I feel like I am not too different from other artists, a lot of the artists I know (that don’t steal) really inspire each other’s art. As an artist, my mindset is not surrounded by business. I try to keep it as close to a hobby as possible, however, once my hard work presents itself to other people they come to me for business opportunities sometimes I can not turn them down. The challenges are not overcome sometimes they are transmuted into better and divine opportunities. There are so many different doors some are closed, locked, unlocked some lead to rooms with no windows, and some lead to rooms with very big beautiful windows with amazing views. My only job is to figure out what door I want and NEED to open is the mystery. Technically I can get through any door I want but every door is not one I want to go through. The world must know about my brand and my story is that I am first a Hueman.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Depending on what friend is visiting and our access to transportation. There are so many spots we could choose from first we are finding food. For breakfast, we could have a vegan/plant-based spot called LesBi Veggiesin Audubon, coffee or tea at Nuanced Cafe on Market St, lunch at a new spot Camden Lunchbox also on market later dinner at Corrine’s on Haddon ave. Most of these businesses have so much in common that they are new, small-black-owned businesses. Night activity might consist of going over the bridge to Philly to visit the music scene Raven Lounge Tuesday nights, Saint Lazerus on Mondays, Kung Fu Neck Tie depending on who is Djing. So many brunch spots during the weekend from Philly to South Jersey Activities like Adult skating, Late nightclubs that have bars and restaurants, if it’s summer being at the Jersey shore is always a great nostalgic time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
starting with my community my tribe writer and filmmaker Teecasso, poet and businesswomen A’Lexus “Free” Tyson, the amazing artist & designer Bee Sunny. these two beautiful activist artists I inspire are Reet Mr. Starwind and Rashaun Dj Reezey. These people inspire me in so many ways I admire all of them and they have given me so much support and I whole heartily appreciate them all.
