We had the good fortune of connecting with Kawaun Love and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kawaun, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Our thought process behind starting The Supermarket Co. was to build a company and community around a brand that furthers the dialogue of American values with emphasis on the modern everyday family. We push to highlight a visual expression of American style and culture through ready-to-wear collections.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Supermarket Co. is a lifestyle contemporary born out of Philadelphia in 2019, poised with premium craftsmanship and modern casual elements, exhibited as ready-to-wear collections. I’m most proud about building a business that promotes the modern family and telling our hereditary stories through fashion, in-which I view as a avenue for expressive creativity. We got to where we are today as a business by building community around our vision while uplifting and promoting our values throughout our growth as a company. I want the world to know that our brand is universal in the values of family and the structure of family, we want to push forth family togetherness as that is a pivotal piece to building a village that protects and elevates one another.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a chick-fil-a type of guy so that is always a go to place to eat for me, 48th street grille for the island wings if you are in the mood for Caribbean cuisine, and Max’s for a on-point cheesesteak. There are a bunch of museums that are really great to visit and take cool pictures in and walnut street where you can shop for fashion pieces.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shalise Jones, she deserves an immense amount of recognition in the success and elevation of the story that is being written. She is our Co-Founder, Designer, Photographer, and holds many other hats to help elevate our company and vision. She is a big component to my modern family and the biggest supporter to some of my most challenging goals and ideas.
