Meet Katya Vilchyk: Lifestyle & Brand Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Katya Vilchyk and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katya, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started out as a mom photographer. I was obsessed with taking pictures of my daughter. Passion for learning how to get better at it took over me and led me on the path to becoming a professional photographer.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I specialize in dreamy and soulful maternity, family and newborn photography. I also help entrepreneurs and small business owners with their online presence via personal branding photography and content creation. And a few times a year I shoot intimate weddings. While I started out as a family and baby photographer in Atlanta, over the last two years I found and fell in love with Personal Branding photography. Through my adventure in online sales and network marketing, I was able to discover the importance of branding yourself through stories and photography, that led me to start offering that to my team, and later, to my photography clients. The biggest challenge is, as always with creatives, overcoming self limiting beliefs, fear of rejection as well as finding your style. I realized that we all have that something special we bring to the table, and for me that special thing is the ability to see magic in people. I create fun and engaging environments during my sessions, where clients tend to forget they are posing for photos, and come out of their shell and let their magic shine. I am there to capture that and reflect it back to them through my lens.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love living in Alpharetta. Our town is vibrant, walkable, friendly and super cute. Before COVID, we would grab the kids and go to the food trucks on a Thursday night, to enjoy some easy bites and live music. I love hiking with my family, Roswell Mill and Leita Thompson trails are some of the frequented spots. Anything that allows us to be outdoors with the kids is where we would go.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My journey to becoming a lifestyle photographer started when I became a mom. I was so mesmerized with my daughter, every breath, every bat of her eyelashes, every moment had to be captured. I was so determined to get better at it too, I remember nursing her and reading every photography blog, consuming every article about f stops, aperture, shutter speed I could find. By the time she was 6 months old, my circle of friends was full of other moms who were photographers, and the support and encouragement was amazing. My main supporters are my family – hubby and kids – who have always stood by my side, none of this would have happened if it wasn’t for them.
