We had the good fortune of connecting with Katrina Pope and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katrina, why did you pursue a creative career?
Why did I pursue an artistic or creative career? I pursued a career in Comedy, because of the pain I experienced throughout my life and I I figured I
would share my story in a comedic way to help others know it’s ok to laugh through trauma.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a standup comedian. What sets me apart from others? The fact that I do not and will not follow the trends. I’m proud of myself for being an individual who delights in thinking for myself and not being swayed by others opinions just because they have more followers or time in the game. I am where I am in my career because I have been taking my time and I am especially excited about my upcoming Live Comedy Taping March 12, 2023 at the Historical Royal Peacock. My personal life trauma normally supersedes my creativity, thus making it hard to mustard up the confidence to face an audience. I hate it.
In full transparency,I don’t function well when I am depressed. Despite, what people may see as a tough exterior I am an empath with heightened sensitivity and before I let anyone trigger me, I am comfortable staying away from the stage to work on me. I want the world to know that I am a woman who empathize and sympathize with most women who seek understanding. I’m at a place in my life where I accept me and I’m accountable for all my decisions good, bad, or indifferent.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite new spots in the city is the James room. It is a speakeasy on the Beltline. I especially like this place because the time I went there, I was met with amazing energy from the gentleman who walked me and my friends to our seats, our server was friendly with impeccable customer service. The food was exceptional. They have a tapas style menu with seafood and vegan options along with crafted cocktails.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The person that I appreciate and value is Tony Roberts, I was on the road with Tony for four years as his feature, and given we are both from Michigan we instantly connected. During that time on the road with him, he afforded me the opportunity to accompany him to radio, television and podcast interviews to promote our shows. Tony, encouraged me to be vulnerable on stage and to be OK with silence as it was just as powerful as a laugh as it meant they were listening for understanding. During those four years on the road with Tony, I gain a level of confidence and comfortability on stage that I believe has made me to be one, if not the best storytelling female comedian. In addition to Tony, my family, friends and fans have kept me honest and accountable to the reason I decided to become a standup comedian.
