We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Rickard and Trish Sumner Speech Language Pathologists and Owners and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katie Rickard and Trish Sumner, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Our business brings superior quality speech therapy to families that may have a difficult time attending a brick and mortar practice due to other obligations during a typical 9-5 day and raising a family. By bringing our services to the families in the community, we are able to help families have access to speech therapy without having to compromise on quality. Along with bringing services to families in surrounding areas, we have partnered with preschools, ABA clinics, and daycares by offering free speech and language screenings in order to help bridge this gap for families that may not know what to specifically look for in delayed speech skills. After COVID, there was an increase in children needing speech therapy due to a lack of socializing and we have seen this first hand. By providing the free screenings we are giving families in our community the knowledge, and ultimately the power to help their child succeed and become the best versions of themselves.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
After working in private clinics for 5 years, we saw a gap in the amount of kids needing therapy and the availability of families lining up with the availability of clinicians. We wanted to make therapy more convenient for families that have busy lifestyles and eliminate the burden for parents that have to travel to take their children to therapy. The most important factor to Pediatric Therapy On The Go would be relationships! The relationships we build with our clients and their families is a key component to their success as well as ours. Without our families, we would not be where we are today. Word of mouth is important and the way people, especially their children, are treated goes a long way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When our nieces and nephews come to town, we love to take them to The Children’s Museum of Atlanta. Kid’s love the life like play. Every activity is packed with language and puts a smile on each child’s face!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We both grew up with mothers who worked as teachers in the special education program in Georgia. Our lives were impacted by their love for their students of special needs and helped drive us to become speech language pathologists.
