We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Mulberry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, how do you think about risk?
The biggest risks that I have ever had to take was leaving my stable well paying office job to pursue a career within the entertainment Industry.

I knew going into it what the risks would be, such as financial uncertainty, the competitive nature of the industry, the need for acceptance and the constant strength of perseverance. But isn’t that exactly what risk is? It involves uncertainties and the possibility of undesirable outcomes. Yet what outweighs these difficulties and unpredictability is the personal and emotional rewards, goals, and successes that you achieve by taking a risk in the first place.

In the past 3 years I have had some extraordinary experiences, been a part of some incredible projects, and have met so many amazing and talented people. And it wouldn’t have happened without taking a risk.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an actress that specializes in creature performing and special effects makeup. The reason why I chose to pursue this art started when I got the opportunity to work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Over the course of 4 months I would go on to portray multiple extraordinary aliens. I loved getting up every morning not knowing what alien I would be playing next because this side of acting allows you to explore a wide range of characters and roles. Whether it’s portraying monstrous creatures, fantastical beings, or even animals, your versatility and adaptability as an actor will give you the opportunity to continuously challenge yourself.

Prior to becoming an actor I was an accountant who was constantly struggling with my mental health. I was living in a consistent state of unhappiness and I began to be content with my deep depression and severe anxiety. I knew I needed a change but I didn’t know how to get there nor did I think it was possible.

It wasn’t until COVID-19 happened and everything shut down, that’s when I really started to work on myself mentally and physically. Once my mental health started to improve I couldn’t stop thinking that life is too short not to take risks for a happier/healthier life. So I decided to take that leap of faith and I took a job in the entertainment industry. I am SO happy and grateful that I did.

Sometimes it’s hard to find a place in this world but the journey to self-discovery and finding our purpose is unique to each of us. You just need to keep moving forward.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
You can catch me at an Atlanta United game at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the atmosphere is electric and the games are exciting. If you’re not much of a sports fan I recommend checking out The Krog District which is located along the Atlanta Beltline. There you will find a variety of restaurants and unique shopping experiences. And if you just want to walk around and get a feel for the city take a walk on the Atlanta Beltline. It gives you the opportunity to explore the city’s vibrant culture while showcasing beautiful art installations, parks, and other amenities.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A massive shout out to my incredible dad and my biggest advocate, Micheal Mulberry. He has helped me navigate life’s challenges and has always been my biggest cheerleader. His support means the world to me, and I am beyond fortunate to have him in my corner.

And a resounding shout out to my incredible friends and family who have been my unwavering source of encouragement and have constantly reminded me of my worth. Whether it was providing a listening ear, offering advice, or having celebratory moments, they have always been there for me.

I would also like to thank my partner in crime, Nicolas D’Amico for sticking has been by my side every single step of the way. Your constant support and presence means the world to me.
