We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Lynn Costa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie Lynn, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Honestly, for the longest time I pushed away the idea of pursuing a creative career because “that’s not where the money is” and the concept of the “struggling artist” lingered over my “conventionally successful” mindset. Although all of my hobbies growing up were artistic and expressive, I went into college for business because I figured it was the smarter option. It wasn’t until I was exposed to the creative online entrepreneurial community via social media that I realized artists DON’T have to fall under the “struggling artist” stereotype. My world was opened up when I saw artists charging their worth and making their own rules. Why couldn’t I do it too? As I delved deeper into self teaching graphic design, my confidence grew and suddenly I couldn’t deny feeling like I could 100% take control of my future while doing something I love every day! There’s really nothing more rewarding than pushing my creative boundaries every day and being driven by my love of art and creative expression.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
BLYNK Social is a Branding & Social Media Management for badass businesses. It’s where bold brands come to make a statement.

At BLYNK Social, we believe that…

The combination of killer strategy and bold design turn brands into household names, cohesive & consistent content creation is the money-making secret weapon you didn’t know you had, and rebranding is a personal experience, so it should be really fun. We come on as your personal brand and social media consultants and turn your unique message, product, and worldview into a brand that will boost your confidence, facilitate growth, and help you stand out from the competition.

I don’t want to necessarily say it was easy, but I believe it has been a smooth ride because I have continued to make business and creative decisions by following my intuition. I’m always trying to live in alignment with the type of leader and creative I want to be. I fully believe you attract the energy you put out and my main goal is to treat others with the kindness and respect they deserve. As someone who lives authentically and isn’t afraid of self expression, I’ve been able to cultivate this type of culture around BLYNK. This is why I attract clients and creatives who align with similar vibrations. BLYNK is a safe space to explore creativity and embrace differences, after all this is what makes us so unique. THIS is where your competitive edge lives! We want to elevate those unique qualities to help brands stand out in the market.

As far as lessons…DO NOT do any creative work without a proper contract in place that protects your art! You deserve to be compensated for your time and energy, even if it’s just a “quick logo” or a request from a friend of a friend.

I want the world to know my experience of diving head first into an artistic career is very much possible as long as you’re willing to constantly grow, learn, and evolve. It is possible to live in a space where your creativity is valued and even celebrated. There is value in your art and work so long you believe it. Not to make this a “believe in yourself” spiel, but… believe in yourself, really. The professional world is changing before our eyes, and you can be a part of positive change by living your creative truth!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ohh fun! The best parts of Atlanta aren’t the Centennial ferris wheel, Lenox Mall (lol), or overpriced cocktails in Buckhead. The best parts of Atlanta are the little restaurants disguised as a house in Midtown, the people you meet and laugh with at a comedy show, and the small business owners who you admire for their tenacity.

My favorite eats: Petit Chou French Bistro, Drip Coffee, Pasta Da Pulcinella, Homegrown, Ruby Chows, Grana, Emerald City Bagels, Carroll Street Cafe, Field Day, Bulla Gastrobar

My Favorite drink spots/good vibes: Sister Lousias Church, Joystick, Vesper, Muchacho, Jack’s Pizza and Wings, Dakota Blue, Wonderkid, Republic social house roof, 3 Taverns

Things to do: Oakland Cemetery, Laughing Skull comedy show, biking on the beltline, Little 5 shopping, small business markets at Ponce or New Realm

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely my dad! My #1 supporter and now financial advisor for BLYNK. He believed in me even before I fully believed in myself that I could take BLYNK full time. The words that stand out to me would be him saying “this could really be something”. & he was right!
