We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Collett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
The beauty industry is really fascinating and flexible.
I don’t think the general public realizes how much of yourself and your family time that you sacrifice. They don’t realize that when you work a Saturday or Sunday that you’ve already worked for 7 days and are desperate for a day off but you don’t want anyone disappointed. The cost of the hair industry is crazy too. All of my clients are caring, understanding and wonderful people. We have grown together and a lot of people don’t realize how close you and your clients become. You watch each other’s families evolve, kids grow, and are there for each other when someone passes away. It’s an amazing thing and clients aren’t just a number, they are family!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I love doing hair & all things in the beauty industry! I have always enjoyed it since I was little and I knew early on it would be my niche. My favorite is when a client says “do whatever you want!” I love it when they’re flexible and willing to try new things. Everyone is different and a Pinterest picture may not suit them best. Flexibility with a style is key!
It was not easy at all to get to where I am. I don’t come from a wealthy family and I had to struggle a lot to get the funds to go on my own. Once I started working for myself, everything fell into place. I saved every penny I could & started out small.  Thankfully, my husband is a carpenter because with out his expertise there is no way I could have done any of it. He has helped me build an amazing business & I absolutely wouldn’t have been able to do it all without him.
I have learned so much through this 5 year journey of owning a business and throughout my career.
Always put your family and yourself first because if you don’t rest, your body will make you. You don’t need to miss events for your children, because you only get that one chance.
And you don’t need to compete with anyone but yourself. Everyone has different skills and styles and you should embrace your own.
As far as what anyone wants to know about me or my brand, I’m not really sure how to answer that. I’m still growing every day as a person, a stylist and as a business owner. It’s so much trial and error. I have the best team and we offer a very relaxed and low key atmosphere. We love our families and our clients and their families. We all try our best to help everyone feel their very best. Luna salon was really about how we ourselves have many different phases of life and so does the moon but we keep going and changing and we can always shine beautiful no matter the phase in life we are in.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I absolutely love to go to the riverstone bistro in canton when my friends and family visit. I also enjoy getting drinks at the barrel house coffee shop in ball ground and the best pedicures at Britney nails. While there isn’t much excitement in our little mountain town, there is some nice shopping and a few nice restaurants. If you’re able to get out, Amicalola falls is gorgeous and not too far away!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Linda Piper. She’s always been there for me, and taught me things I didn’t learn in school. She has always believed in me. Without her encouragement, I wouldn’t have had the courage to start my own business.
