We had the good fortune of connecting with Katelyn Vickers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katelyn, what’s your definition for success?
I define success as, the moment when you find peace. Being a creative comes with a lot of ups and downs. It’s not about when it all starts to make sense. It’s being able to be at peace even when it doesn’t.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a high school teacher who gets to do what I love every day—teach journalism, the field I earned my degree in. In addition to the classroom, I serve as a cheerleading coach, mentoring students both academically and athletically. Outside of school, I juggle my own podcast and blog, where I continue to tell stories, create conversations, and stay connected to media beyond the classroom. Altogether, my work is rooted in storytelling, leadership, and helping young people find their voices.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came into town I would first take them to Gutbusters to order some BOMB breakfast. After that we would more than likely do something relaxing like go to piedmont or walk around any local park. To end the night we’d have a nice dinner and then finish the night at a club or bar!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shoutout to my mom and my best friend. Through it all they have stuck by me and pushed me to keep going. I’ve had my fair share of betrayal and let downs. From radio stations, media groups, family and friends but they have always motivated me to keep going.
