We had the good fortune of connecting with Katelyn & Matt Pike and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katelyn & Matt, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We starting Honeycomb Films in 2019 after our own wedding. Funny story: we originally thought “let’s film our own wedding – we could totally do that!” Now looking back – we couldn’t be more happy to that we hired a videographer! There is no way we could have captured our own wedding to the caliber that a professional could!

After learning more from our videographers about the industry, we decided to start our company. Katelyn’s passion has been weddings since she could remember – and she always wanted to be in the industry. Our talents for videography and filmmaking independently made us perfect to create a team for Honeycomb Films – Matt understand the tech side, color science, and has an eye for detail, while Katelyn is a true storyteller and can bring a story to life through her video editing. We are both so entrepreneurial spirited that all this combined created the perfect opportunity to start Honeycomb Films.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Running Honeycomb Films is the most FUN thing I’ve ever done. It is a lot of work, but it is so rewarding. We both have full time jobs in addition to Honeycomb Films, so running this company is a lot of late nights and TONS of work on the weekends and during all “free time”. In addition to the time is takes to just own a business, video editing is a very lengthy task. But we love the work we do, and the people we get to make videos for so much that the long days are just completely worth it.

We believe in creating a real, personal relationship with all our clients. In creating this company, we made a promise to ourselves to not just be another vendor. Our couples aren’t a transaction to us – they have a story to be told and have entrusted us to tell that story. We hold that very close to our hearts and believe that the best way to tell that story is to truly get to know them on a personal level.

Additionally, we strive to create a video for each couple that is as unique as their love. We do not us a cookie cutter or template model, and build every video from the ground up – starting with music and ending with those beautiful, colorful final touches. Each video gets the time and attention it deserves from Matt and I.

Some people are shocked when they hear we fully work together in this company – and it’s true – we do! We love how our passion to create films allows us to be spend time, and get creative, together!

This industry is not easy – especially in recent years. The ups and downs of the wedding industry can be very hard to ride, but we know if we keep working hard and producing the best work we can we will meet and book the perfect clients. We just keep working hard to create relationships with clients as well as fellow vendors because word of mouth is the best booking tool!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We are the worst Atlanta tour guides because we honestly spend all our timing working on our company or at weddings for our clients!

However, if we were to recommend to some clients some amazing venues to check out, some of our favorites include:

– The Wimbish House in Downtown Atlanta (A great little house in downtown Atlanta that has a wonderful cocktail and reception space, as well as a perfect getting ready area for both the bride in groom – with GREAT lighting!)

– White Laurel Estates (An indoor/outdoor venue in Dawsonville, GA. Has a great souther brand feel, with an upscale setting. Beautiful white wood all over with a cute outdoor ceremony gazebo, spacious indoor reception areas, and getting ready locations for both bride and groom!)

– Berry College (The architecture is to die for and creates amazing outdoor portrait shots!)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would love to shoutout Heart Happy Films – Kim and Kyle. They were our wedding videographers and watching their passion and love for the industry sparked ours! They have a true community before competition attitude and are amazing cheerleaders and mentors to us.
