We had the good fortune of connecting with Kassie Banjoko and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kassie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I initially didn’t have any intentions of starting my own business. I enjoy the process of macrame and was making plant hangers mainly for myself. then locally I sold a few here and there. It wasn’t until a friend of mine really encouraged me to pursue selling them as a business that I started to think about it. Once that thought began to be entertained, I started thinking about what I needed to do to pursue this and now I’m always looking for ways to grow. I learned quickly and still hold firm to the belief that, it’s all about your mind set! If you think you can do this and work all the avenues to the best of your ability, then your business can succeed.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a small business, a challenge can be sometimes feeling like you’re in a saturated niche. One thing Iv had to learn is that there is room for everyone, even if there are many people in your industry. At times it can be a real challenge to get seen and get your brand out there. But giving up isn’t the way to go, You just have to keep trying all the avenues to get your name out there. Persistence works! I have enjoyed that journey and can’t wait to see my business grow more!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite things to do is find local markets and shop with the local artist. I also love some live music. You can usually find any of these things in the DFW area at any given time. And the food here, there are so many fabulous restaurants and bars. One fun place to go is Legacy Hall. They have loads of different choices to eat at. It’s great for a group of friends to go to, everyone can pick what sounds good to them as well as getting drinks!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my husband, without his support of my obsession of the fiber arts I wouldn’t be doing what I am! He has also been a huge support of local markets, helping me set up and tear down. It’s really a team effort at Knots by Kassie!
