We had the good fortune of connecting with Karen Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I initially started my business my thought process was to just do what I love to do because I was good at it and people would asked me to make what they saw in my home. Eventually that changed. I realized I could do what I love to do and get paid as well.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I do a variety of crafts. T-shirt’s, wreaths, flower arrangements, cups, tumbler’s, signs, welcome boards, anything that can be personalized I can do it. What sets me apart is that I’m able to connect with my customers and make them feel like they’re the only customer I have. I’m most proud because I was diagnosed with a incurable illness called Sarcoidosis, an auto immune disease.. I have fought really hard to build my business to push through all the difficulties and adversities I’ve faced. I’ve over come the challenges with a lot of pray, faith and perseverance. The lessons I’ve learned along the way is that you have to have a vision (a dream) be consistent and block out all the naysayers. If I can start a business with all the health issues I’ve faced then anyone can do it if the they just keep the faith and keep grinding really hard! I love what I and if I didn’t get paid I would still do it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would have some lunch at D’Cora bakery and Bistro or take out with L6_Eatery. Dinner at the buffet in the casino and some fun entertainment in the Saracen Casino Resort. We would visit Lake Saracen for relaxation and downtime. Go for a swim at the aquatic center. I’d take them by one of my favorite small businesses Natural Bliss to check out all of there healthcare needs.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have 2 people in particular that I personally look up to. They are like my brother and sister. They have always encouraged me on my journey in business as they are business owners as well. Any advice or support they are there.
