We had the good fortune of connecting with Karen Patton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting Peach Out Power Yoga was a decision I made for several reasons. After moving to Georgia and unexpectedly finding myself getting divorced, I was in a position to need to go back to work. This hadn’t really been part of my plan at the time as I had hoped to be a stay at home mom, focusing my time and energy on raising my girls. It was important to me that I develop some financial independence so I didn’t have to worry about the future or ever depend on someone else. As a single parent raising two active girls, I also needed a career where I could control my schedule and lifestyle and have true job security. Most importantly, I was super excited to create something from the ground up that I could be proud of, and to use my own ideas and creativity. Owning a business takes a ton of time and commitment, but knowing that each day brings new opportunities and challenges keeps me passionate and engaged.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
If you were to ask any client at Peach Out Power Yoga what the studio was like, they would tell you that we are unlike any yoga studio they have ever been to. From the inception of my business, it was important to me that I was authentic, and that I created something real and special. The minute you step through the doors at Peach Out, you feel the community, the love and the genuine friendships. I have taken many risks in the way I run my business AND the way I teach yoga, but it is what has made us successful. I have 15 instructors, all who teach differently, and I have always stressed they be themselves. My studio has such a diverse staff that there is truly something for everyone. I would encourage anyone who is starting their own business, whatever that is, to always be true to who they are. I am super proud of what I have created at Peach Out.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many fun things to do in Atlanta, and I continue to discover cool new places all the time. Living in East Cobb, I would recommend visiting Canton Street for a fun Friday or Saturday night out. There are at least a dozen great restaurants within a block that all have a great nightlife. Hitting a Braves game, biking on the beltline, and visiting World of Coke should be on everyone’s to do list! And of course, get your sweat on at Peach Out Power Yoga!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Although I didn’t realize it at the time, I now know that my path led me to Georgia for a reason. I am incredibly lucky to have ended up in a generous community where people cheer you on in every way, and truly hope for your success. Without the support of the East Cobb community, my talented and hard working staff, and my very dear friends, I would never have been able to survive the pandemic. I would not be celebrating four years of business, and I would’ve been crushed to lose what I had worked so hard for. Covid was devastating to my industry as a whole, and many yoga studios and fitness based businesses were sadly forced to close. I couldn’t be more grateful to my staff and my clients for continuing to financially support my business during that time.
