Meet Kareem Bawaallah | Creative Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kareem Bawaallah and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kareem, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Easily say my team by far. I love what Kevin Durant said recently. “I’ll NEVER be able to do anything that I really want to do on earth, by myself.” You can only do so much by yourself, the team surrounding me has helped me produce some amazing content and pieces. I’ve come to trust their judgment on business decisions and to help me make such a successful brand.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well Amok is a streetwear brand and creatives collective. I personally believe assembling such a well rounded and talented team is our biggest accomplishment, and I’m extremely proud of that. Growing up I loved working as a unit, I always had a thing for designing and my parents had me in art classes at a young age so it kind of came naturally to me at a point. When I finally met the team i’m with today in 2015 it was something new in our area. A group of kids making clothes and music, our biggest hurdle honestly was getting people to support our movement. I learned early on that the people in your area will probably be the last to support you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’ll I’m from the Nawf so i’m a little biased when it comes to Georgia. I’m a brunch kind of guy though so I’d definitely take them thru a different brunch spot each day like First Watch, Flying Biscuit, or Another Broken Egg. Can’t go wrong with some good brunch. If its my friend I know they like to dress so we’d definitely have to tap in with a few of my favorite stores like Jiwantsclothes and Good Times Atl in terms of shopping or even to just chill those are 2 of my favorite places. I’m not to big on going out so I’m probably the worst person to be with if you like to club but a couple house parties can never hurt.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve blessed enough to be surrounded by a ridiculous amount of creative and supportive people. Without my closest friend and business partner Chi I probably wouldn’t even be in the position i’m in today. Our team (Amok) are a huge part of our success story, and i’m forever grateful. Not only them but my family as well, my sisters and parents have always held me down and focused on whats in front of me. My uncles have always been like mentors to be guiding me through the realm of owning and running a business.
