We had the good fortune of connecting with Karastyn Bibb and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karastyn, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work life balance is so incredibly important to me. For actors, so much of our lives is working on your next gig before the contract you’re currently on is over. I think that mentality has lessened a bit because of covid. But for younger actors who haven’t had much time in the industry, I think the concept of “hustle culture” still rings true. I am guilty of overworking my self and now I think I’m finally at a place where I realize that if I don’t give my body and mind the time to relax after a project, I can’t give my all in the next one. So I do cherish my days off!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an actor local to the Atlanta area. I have been acting since I was a kid and I recently graduated in 2022 with a BFA in Performance and a Dance Minor from Columbus State University. I just finished an acting apprenticeship with the Georgia Ensemble Theatre and am so excited to really dive into my acting career. I have been acting non-stop since last September and I couldn’t be more grateful. I feel like I wouldn’t be where I am today if not for the amazing mentors and friends i’ve had as well as the massive support from my Family. I’ve learned a lot about who I am as a person and what kind of energy I want to put out into the world. I can only hope to inspire someone or make someone feel something with each performance I do and that is what keeps me excited!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I absolutely love a good coffee shop or a cafe. Any place that can allow us to actually connect, especially over some yummy snacks, is definitely a favorite of mine. I think people tend to miss out on the hole in the wall places, those are always my favorite to explore.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many wonderful people in my life that deserve credit. But I have so much to thank to my first theatre instructor Lakesha Green. I think she was able to see past the shy, awkward young girl I was. There are so many good lessons about confidence and knowing your worth as an artist that came from her and I think she really ignited the idea that performing could be a pathway for me.
