We had the good fortune of connecting with Kanika Moor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kanika, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always been a lover of music. Actually I’ve practically been obsessed with music since I was a baby. I didn’t always have a clear idea of what I wanted to do when I was growing up but I knew I loved to talk. I knew for a fact that I wanted to help people tell their truth. I went from wanting to be a lawyer, to wanting to a psychologist, to becoming the owner of a media company. Funny thing is none of my loved ones expected this of me. They understood my love for all things music and talking though ,lol.

What should our readers know about your business?
I think I started this business purely on passion. I’ve always been a writer and I love to give my viewpoints on any and everything. I think what separates Spillit Entertainment from other brands is Me. My need to want to help and hear people is what makes my company special. I could hire a million other people that do similar things but people will always refer back to me.

I think the biggest lesson i learned from building this business is how and when to set boundaries. I came in so calm and relatively shy when it came to networking with like minded individuals. I started to see a difference when it came to the opportunities I would get as soon as I opened up and showed people who I am.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, I’m a big foodie. I think when I go out food has to be on the top of the agenda , everything else is secondary. My favorite place to eat is The Commodore in Brooklyn New York. Their fried chicken is heavenly. That would be our first and probably only stop because they also have live entertainment and games. If we’re feeling social I would go to one of my friend’s Chase Simms spots and party at whatever event they have going on at the time. He normally throws his events at some of the hottest lounges in NYC so we’re sure run into some celebs or local celebrities. After that depending on the time of the year, which knowing my best friend it would be summer time, we would go to Ralph’s Italian Ices in LI.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Aw man. That’s a big one. I would give my grandmother Lorraine Floyd credit for my entrepreneurial drive. My mother Samantha Moore credit for the hustle. My mother was a hustler. She never made excuses either. She just did what she needed to do. I would give my aunt Tanya Moor credit for my personality. Yes, we all develop our own style and grace but she definitely added to my attitude, lol.
