We had the good fortune of connecting with Kammy Dodson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kammy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
It’s like they say “no risks, no rewards”. I firmly believe that if I didn’t take the risks I have in life that I wouldn’t b e where I am today. It’s kind of like stepping out on faith. I’m a planner and I don’t do things without thinking it through but I am willing to forgo something in order to reach my end goal. I initially loved being in the medical field and thought that was my passion until it wasn’t anymore and I felt complacent. I left something I knew I was exceptional at to pursuit real estate. I pretty much left my comfort zone behind to embark on a new journey that I knew nothing about and had no experience in. I felt my character and personality would go along way with real estate and I must say that risk paid off. I’m in a very successful position today and I must say it feels meant to be. Confidence ties into risk taking. You have to bet on yourself and be willing to work hard for what you want in life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a Real Estate Agent, specializing in New Construction. I also service Metro Atlanta in a time where homes are at a very low supply with a high demand and may agents are looking to help their clients buy or sell their home, just like you. What set’s me apart is my adaptability. I’m always willing to place myself into the shoes of my clients, no matter their budget or home style choice. I consider their home as my own and I wouldn’t want an agent that I chose to assist and make the experience easier for me, to be the one pressuring me or being overly persistent. I don’t make people feel like it’s all about the sale and going our separate ways. At the end of it all, you’ll end up becoming close with your clients and building a friendship as you stay in contact. Having this kind of attitude is what helps you gain referrals in this business.

It may look like all you’re doing is showing homes and writing contracts but there’s much more to it than that. You have to build relationships and gain the confidence of people who really don’t know you and what you’re about because you have no experience or history of sales, let alone clients. It takes time, dedication and consistency. I got where I am today by creating relationships with other agents and brokers in my field. I was willing to step outside of my comfort zone and attend seminars and special events to meet these people and almost create an interview style conversation. I had no idea that doing that would craft an opportunity for me. It wasn’t easy because I don’t normally open myself up to talk to strangers unless I have to and I knew that was going to be apart of my everyday life as an agent so I thought, hey, why not meet other agents and have a meeting of the minds and gain perspective.

I want people to know that no matter how many people are in the same business or market as you. If this is something you want to pursuit. Go for it! Everyone is different, no one person is the same. There’s someone for everyone. There’s a set of client’s waiting for someone like you!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a dog mom so I like to pick dog friendly places so I can bring my almost 6 year old Shih Tzu Mix, Teddy. Piedmont park is pretty much a staple in Atlanta and you should never not visit at least once. Botanical Gardens is totally worth the trip because I’m sure everyone has watched a movie that filmed a scene with the famous Earth Goddess in the background. I’m a foodie and trying different restaurants is one my favorite things to do. Brunch is always apart of the plans, some of my top favorite places are South City Kitchen, Buttermilk Kitchen, Sun in My Belly, West Egg, Folk Art and Park 75. If I were a private tour guide, I would set the meeting point at Centennial Olympic Park and tour the Mercedes Benz and State Farm Arena then ride a golf cart to visit the CNN Center, Coca Cola Factory, GA Aquarium and take a ride on the Skyview Ferris Wheel. There are a number of excursions that Atlanta, some places may require a bit of driving but is well worth the experience such as the Atlanta Zoo or Safari Park, indoor Skydiving, the Battery Atlanta, North Georgia Wine Country, Fernbank Museum of Natural History, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Brandon, he is the most dedicated husband I think anyone could have. I’m not sure I’d be in this position without his support. I’m sure I would always be destined to be successful but perhaps the timing would’ve much different if he wasn’t in my corner. When I decided to leave my secure 9-5 to commit to life of sort of “uncertainty and inconsistency” as a self employed entrepreneur. It was my husband that had my back and became a full time provider for us both. There were days where I felt I was a burden or I was in over my head but he pushed me to keep striving and always reassured me that I made the right choice and that success doesn’t happen overnight. He was not only correct but little did I know that success would be right around the corner. I’m forever grateful to have such a compassionate partner who is willing to support my goals and dreams. He deserves a shoutout.
