We had the good fortune of connecting with Kalia Knapp and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kalia, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Networking! Collaborating with other creatives, your initial vision expands into a master mind of potential! Utilizing my skills alongside other sets of perspectives, forms of media and connections that  are backed by passion.. it allows never ending interpretations/brainstorming to be molded into physical reality. Building a foundation of reliable partnerships is what continues to elevate my goals, brand and businesses.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
ALOT! There are tons of moving parts to juggling and completing multiple projects simultaneously. One of my favorite “rule of thumb” foundations in my day to day processes is  “Interior Design, like Dance, is a Form of Self Expression. Shape, Scale and Color. ”

Growing up  and surrounded by make it or break, incredibly empowering females throughout my life has given a progressive hands on approach to overcome & excel any challenge I may face. Taking that into a  viewpoint of client relations- every project requires different needs. Each canvas is a new opportunity to create an inviting environment that caters to their personal characteristics. Your space is a reflection of you, what mirror do you want to build to make it the most “You” as you can…  I take pride in being able to incorporate an organic process in clients areas and my personal adventures including my decor/apothecary type products. Looking back, I am incredibly thankful for the background and high exposure to arts including years of dance, music, museums and family owned blue collar/artisanal businesses. Because of them  I have a great appreciation and rooted inspiration from organic elements. That all keeps me busy professionally. From scheduling leads, marketing to new audiences, creating new ways to keep current in this digital age, selecting fabrics and tiles from vendors and cranking out the outcome were expected to produce at the end of the day.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My go to spots around the city would be The High, it’s packed full of diverse art highlights, it’s next to great social bars that are perfect for aesthetic photo ops.

I can’t leave out Little 5 points for some spunky/eclectic shops like comedy at the Vortex/Laughing Skull.

The Swan House is an absolute MUST! I always have tostroll through the immaculate architectural homes near Virginia Highland & Piedmont-Buckhead neighborhoods . I’d  polish it off at the Beltline f and Krog Street graffiti tunnel for more yummy restaurants and plenty of seasonal activities/sites.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All my current successes are odes to my past failures. Every lateral move in each chapter of my life, sometimes it’s three steps forwards, then five backwards. But thats the beauty of EVERYTHING!

Many inspirations, support and “cheerleading” are on behalf of my business partners, early internships/sponsorships and family. I wouldn’t change a thing about my journey starting up and where I am going.
