We had the good fortune of connecting with Kalei Phree and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kalei, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was geared more towards mental health than the blue print of a business. As most Americans, I struggled with anxiety; it affected my day to day life. My job noticed I showed signs of hypervigilance and I noticed that I woke up with my heart racing EVERY RISING (morning). As I researched my ailments and possible solutions I heard one of my favorite singers, Jhene’ Aiko’s, songs called “Trigger Protection Mantra”. Not only was I sold on the song, but I knew I needed singing bowls of my own. I went to a my local metaphysical store and purchased my first two Tibetan Singing Bowls … I was an instant sound healer after that (giggles). I’d go live on Facebook and Instagram to share the amazing “new form of healing” I’d discovered” for me and my friends. I began doing pop ups so people could get some brief “in person” sessions of what they would see on my social media. Clump that with networking and every since then my business has prospered and blossomed into more than just sound healing and I’ve also grown so much as a spiritual being and business owner.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The fact that my business started as a form of personal “self help” is really divine and sentimental to me. My business is a part of my lifestyle and not just my professional life. I am my business, my kids are involved and it’s a lot less like work and more like I’m making a positive impact on people’s lives. “I am an international PAID positive influencer” is exactly what I wrote on my mirror of manifestations just a couple years ago. My business is confirmation for me as well as others that we can have anything we believe we can; all we have to do is decide. I’ve had some severely traumatic experiences which grants me the ability to relate to a variety of people. After mishandling myself for years, thus adding to my trauma, I had to reevaluate myself and see what role I was playing in my own demise. Once I realized that I had a voice in my story, my life changed for the good. With these realizations I chose to practice positive coping mechanisms which evolved into a positive lifestyle. There are more people like me who need what I have to offer. There may be people who do what I do, but there is no one who does what I do.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would definitely “city hop” because I live in the country and there is nothing to do here, which is one reason I love it so much. First stop would be Lillington, NC to visit Raven Rock so we can ground ourselves and set our intentions for the remainder of our trip. After that, I can’t hold myself to any specific order but I will list some experiences I would want us to share. Spa day for sure, full body massage, sauna, mani and pedi, and soft music. Want us to leave there feeling reborn. Heading back to our hotel to get dressed in gowns to go to whatever restaurant we decide, preferable the place has good seafood options. Back to the hotel which will be beachfront, slide the balcony door open and the sounds of the waves greet us. Throughout the week there will be plenty dancing, beaching, nature, maybe indoor skydiving, going to out of town thrift stores … those are the best, and unplanned destinations. We will find some comedy shows, spoken word, live bands or something exciting like that to attend. I don’t see any of us planning a week of things, but we would throw a few ideas out there of definite things we want to do or eat and then just figure it out as we go.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Wow, I’m at a point in my life where my support system is thorough, I can only hope I don’t miss anyone. My twin sister, Jeanelle, known you since the womb .. through all stages of life and we are still going. You’ve always had my back and each day we get closer, life gets doper. You are truly my other half and thank you for always being there for me. Grams raised my twin sister and I from birth and the fact that she was blessed to watch us grow up and have children of our own, and I’ve gotten to see her turn Seventy-Nine come August, I’m so grateful, I’ve learned a lot of life through my Grama Ida. My mom, without her I wouldn’t be here; every since I was little I wanted to be just like her. I always thought she was such a model and beautiful on the outside, my mind was too small to grasp that she was just as beautiful on the inside and lucky for me I grew up to be so much like her. My Dad & My Pops … Supportive and Solid. I can see both of you in myself when I look in the mirror. Scar, Toya, Bianca, Trish, Roy, Reiva, Keisha, Janell, Leasia, I would need a whole book to go into the spill of just how grateful I am for all of you, seriously … Thank you guys so much for all that you do. Now books? “Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz is at the top of my list, along with “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, “Tao Te Ching by Lou Zou” which I’m still reading, it’s more of a book that you’ll generally refer back to.
