We had the good fortune of connecting with Kalani Shelby and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kalani, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Spark of Glitter Productions actually started thanks to my sister. She was having a baby shower, and the quotes we received for balloon décor were a bit pricey. Being the family party planner, I figured, ‘Why not just do the entire event myself?’ I took a class to learn balloon design, fell in love with the process, and before I knew it……Spark of Glitter was born.

It’s funny — that day, my sister gave birth to my nephew and, in a way, my business too. The thing is, I had no plans of starting a business. I already have a full career in a corporate organization, I’m a full-time student pursuing a pre-med psychology degree, and I’m a full-time mom to two beautiful girls. But this little passion project lit a spark I couldn’t ignore. What started as a DIY solution for family turned into something I realized I could share with others, bringing that same joy and creativity to their celebrations

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being the owner of Spark of Glitter Productions, I specialize in bringing parties to life and creating unforgettable experiences through creative event styling, balloon art, and custom design. The thing that sets me apart is that I can mix creativity with accuracy – I am not merely concerned with making it look amazing, I am committed to making it a seamless, problem-free experience from start to finish for clients. Every event is tailored to reflect their personality, vision, and energy, whether it is a small baby shower or a large corporate event.

I’m most proud of how far I’ve come without ever planning to be here. Balancing a corporate career, being a full-time pre-med psychology student, and raising two daughters while building a business hasn’t been easy. I started with one baby shower and a single balloon class, but through practice, research, and pure determination, I’ve grown Spark of Glitter into a brand that people trust to bring their biggest moments to life.

There have been challenges — tight deadlines, last-minute changes, learning the ropes of entrepreneurship — but I’ve overcome them by staying adaptable, leaning on my support system, and never being afraid to learn something new. My daughters have even become part of the business, learning to professionally style events themselves, which has been one of my greatest joys.

What I want the world to know is this: Spark of Glitter Productions is more than just décor. It’s about creating moments that sparkle in people’s memories for years to come. My story is proof that you don’t have to have it all figured out to start — you just need passion, resilience, and the courage to take that first step.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting Atlanta for a week, we’d keep it fun but true to my style. We’d kick things off with my famous early morning 3 a.m. workout — hitting the weights before most people have even hit snooze. That’s my happy place, so they’d get the full experience right away.

Outside of the gym, I’m a bit of a homebody, so we’d keep things low-key and intentional. We’d definitely grab a meal at The Vortex — because their burgers are unbeatable — and catch some live music at a small lounge with a good vibe.

In between, we’d probably chill at the house, have a few cocktails, and listen to music while we laugh the night away. I love sharing the city, but I’m big on quality time, so the week would be about great food, good music, and lots of laughs — with just a little sparkle mixed in.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I give my biggest shoutout to my family — and most especially my sister. Without her baby shower, there wouldn’t be a Spark of Glitter Productions at all. She believed in me enough to allow me to make her dreams come true, and that belief in me gave me the confidence to do something new.

I’d also like to thank my two daughters. They are my constant source of inspiration and the drive that gets me through the long corporate career days, full-time schooling, and entrepreneurship. They’re also my employees! They’ve learned to professionally decorate events, and it’s been wonderful to watch them become proficient in those skills. They remind me of staying focused on pursuing your dreams and leading by example.
