We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaitlyn Shattuck and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaitlyn, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Five years ago I quite my full time job to stay home with my son. It was the best decision I made. I still wanted to work but, be my own boss. I decided after a year being a stay at home mom, I wanted to earn some extra money. I decided to start my photography business. I loved taking pictures of my son. Loved taking pictures before getting pregnant just never thought about going into photography until a year after having him. Last year I decided to go full time in my photography business. This year makes four years and I can’t wait for many more. Love it!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a photographer in Covington, GA. I love making sure my clients are comfortable and happy during their session. I like to do different things in my business and be a leader. I am very proud of myself. I started doing Mystic Fall sessions in Covington and it has become a big hit. Born and raised here I’ve watched a lot of films in my hometown. I am going to be taking pictures for the Epic Convention coming to Covington the first time this year in October. Very exciting. I started four years ago learning and growing into the photographer I am now. I am still learning new things in this business everyday. It wasn’t easy at first. Praying, putting it in Gods hands, thinking positive, and having a great support system has helped a lot. I have learned a lot of lessons in this business. Always trust your gut feeling and sometimes saying no is okay. You definitely live and learn in this business. I am a hard worker and I make sure the clients are happy/comfortable when I capture their epic moments that will last forever.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to my favorite locations. Filming locations such as Mystic Falls Covington, Ga. We would do tours in town and walk around. Eat at Mystic Grill, City Pharmacy, and El Chaparro. Take a ghost tour with Roo On The Move. Drink coffee at the coffee shops on the square. I would take the friend to other filming locations like Jackson, Ga where Stranger Things was filmed. Walk around the square shop in the stores. Go to Atlanta to the Aquarium and zoo.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Family and friends. My husband Steven. He has been supportive of my decision with me owning my own business and has helped me out a lot.
My dad Richard Burnham. He has helped me with my business and website. He is my marketing consultant with The Salt Net Marketing & Consulting.
