Meet Kaitlyn Adams | Makeup Artist & content curator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaitlyn Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaitlyn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was in college pursuing a degree in neuroscience, when it clicked that I was not in love with my major. I began doing makeup for friends for fun and exploring the more creative/ editorial side of makeup. Very quickly it took for me, making my own content to being scouted for a showcase. It grew before my eyes, and I realized I wanted to buckle down and make this my career. My biggest reasoning was that every time I woke up and got to glam someone I’d be fulfilled, paid or not. It made me realize this should be my business.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a black woman who grew up in Atlanta. I’ve seen creativity and innovation tucked into salons since I was young. As I grew, I saw all this creativity being showcased everyday, but I didn’t feel that it was given a chance to be bigger. Creativity that came from white faces was propelled so much further than black faces and I thought it was a disservice. I love bringing those non traditional looks and creativity into my work. I want to show off the knowledge and beauty in editorials with teams of young black creatives! That’s how I became kaked.by.kait, I display editorial and non-traditional makeup on my social media. It’s never been easy not even now, most of my paid work is still traditional, but it’s expected. Though with those opportunities, I’m able to curate non traditional projects that still give me freedom of expression. Of course I love my traditional work and do not want to stop, but I also look forward to day, young black creatives are given funding and support to do those out of the box jobs! I want my audiences to know that my brand is about self expression, giving my client the ultimate experience to fulfill those unconventional visions. That can be tailored to each experience whether you want to be painted blue with elf ears or just try a bold purple lip!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them by little five points! Do some shopping at Junkman’s Daughter or Psycho Sisters, swing by Vortex or Hudson Grille! Take a pottery class with The Mangata experience and hit up the roof top Skyline Park and 9 mile station.
I would definitely try to catch a show at Masquerade.
I’d love to spend an afternoon either at Centennial or Piedmont Park.
Brunch at Breakfast at Barney’s or lunch at Atrium on Ponce.
Hang out at Battery specifically check out punch bowl special or silver spot cinema

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family! From my mom buying me my first MAC products to my dad buying my first ring light. My siblings who have always advocated for me and supported me, even sent me jobs! My family from my immediate family to my extended family cousins aunts and uncles have all rallied around me to support my journey. I’ve been blessed with a village of friends I’ve been blessed with a village of friends.
