Meet Kailyn McBride | Writer & Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kailyn McBride and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kailyn, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m proudly from Trenton, New Jersey. Growing up in Trenton taught me resilience and determination. The city has faced its fair share of challenges over the years, but the Trenton community has always shown remarkable strength in overcoming adversity. This spirit of perseverance instilled in me a drive to pursue my dreams relentlessly, even in the face of obstacles, and the city’s history, its people, and their stories became the foundation for my storytelling.

Growing up, my parents ensured my sister, Lauren, and I had everything we needed despite our surroundings. Trenton is a place where diamonds grow in the “rough'” and I’m happy that I grew up the way that I have, as it also showed me that it doesn’t matter where you come from if you have people who care about you and who lift you when you’re down, you can be anything you want to be.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am a children’s book author! I started writing in college and developed a passion for writing and sharing stories, whether that was how I saw the world through my lens or how someone else saw the world through theirs. I don’t know what exactly made me want to start writing children’s books, but I’m very happy that I committed to turning my ideas into a reality, but it definitely was not easy. Like anything that’s difficult — how you overcome an obstacle is a crucial part of personal growth and development. It is through facing and overcoming challenges that we gain strength, resilience, and confidence.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to a farm. Maybe try to do horseback riding, something super out of the ordinary. I like cool stuff like that. I’m very simple, and I love Italian food. Either Italian food or tacos!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family! They have always been there for me, even when I was wrong. They’re my full support, and I owe my strength to them. They taught me how to be the woman I am today, and I’ll always be grateful for them.
