We had the good fortune of connecting with Kae Nicole and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kae, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
Eventually, I want to turn Fontaine Publications into a publishing house! When I curate the right team and can spend more time focusing on my brand, I want to help other authors reach their goals while also maintaining their creative freedom and liberty.
I also want to include digital resources, writing workshops, stationery, coaching services, and more once my brand builds traction and I get more time. I am a one-woman show after all!
I’m not necessarily in this to make a ton of money. That would be great, but at the end of the day, my main focus will always be making the publishing process easier for anyone who wants to write and sell their book.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I don’t know if there’s anything that truly sets me apart from other writers/authors because I’m in the same boat as everyone else! I’m just trying to write when I have free time and get people to notice my work online. But, the thing I’m most proud of is the fact that I never gave up on my dream. I have this goal for myself regarding my art. I want to create something worth remembering and the fact that I haven’t wavered from that is what truly makes me proud.
As for how I got to where I am today, it’s a mixture of support from my family and just perfecting my craft. I try to always find time to write or do something creative. The journey hasn’t always been easy because I feel like everyone deals with imposter syndrome at some point in their life, but I try to overcome it as best as I can. At the end of the day, numbers and metrics don’t equate to my talent. The right audience will find me when they’re supposed to, so I try to keep that in mind when I’m struggling.
As for what I want the world to know about my brand and my story, just know that you aren’t alone in this. Even when it sucks, just keep going. Someone is waiting for your story or your product. If you give up, they’ll never get the chance to experience it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Considering I’m a bit of an introvert, this is going to be interesting! But if my best friend manages to drag me out of the house, I would probably take them to my favorite coffee shop (which also hosts a poetry slam every Friday called The Space) in Kennesaw. For anybody who loves affordable food, drinks, and dope music, it’s called Tinto’s!
I would also take them to two bookstores that I love: 2nd & Charles and Phoenix and Dragon (this one is a mix between a bookstore and a metaphysical shop).
Food-wise, there are a couple of places I would recommend. JINYA, Yebisuya, Marietta Burger Bar, and Cylantros Venezuelan Cuisine to name a few.
Other than that, I’m not super familiar with everything that’s in Georgia since I’m not originally from here, but those are just some of the places that I’ve visited or frequent a lot.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
That’s a great question. I have a lot of people who have supported me throughout my writing/business journey, but the truth is, there’s only one person who turned me into who I am today. My mother is the main reason I’m even here for this interview and still pursuing my dreams. She’s always encouraged me to be creative and nurture my gifts. Even when I wanted to give up writing, she always pushed me to keep going. Even when I didn’t know where my career path would take me, she always encouraged me to do better and to think bigger.
My mother is an entrepreneur herself. She owns a haircare brand called Curls & Potions and being able to watch her build it from the ground up was inspiring to me. I watched how much passion she put into her brand and the methods she used to make a name for herself. I was able to see the highs and the lows. To learn from her. To watch as she always maintained her integrity for her products and herself. I don’t think I would have had the courage to pursue entrepreneurship if I didn’t get the chance to see how she did it and how she excelled. It didn’t matter what curveball was thrown at her. She always got back up and continued to pour her all into her brand. So that’s part of the reason I started Fontaine Publications. I wanted to show my Mom that her success inspired my own and that everything I do is to commemorate her dedication and her sacrifices. She’s the heartbeat behind it all.
