We had the good fortune of connecting with Kadijah Vickers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kadijah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always worked for myself in whatever venture that I was pursuing at the time, over the past 20 years. In conversations with my mentor, I was advised to start pursuing my purpose and passion versus always chasing a check. I took some time and did some soul searching in order to identify my purpose. Once I realized that my purpose was to “serve”, I then had to figure out as to what capacity am I here to serve. I’ve always known how to cook and overall hospitality was embedded in me by my mother so I decided to enroll myself in Culinary School. I was approaching a milestone birthday and felt like it was time to leave my hometown of Tampa. I did some research and decided that Atlanta would be the perfect place to start my next chapter. I packed up me and my two children and we relocated to Sandy Springs Georgia. Once we were acclimated to our new city, I went and enrolled at Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts School. This is when I truly fell in love with the world of hospitality. I graduated with an Associates Degree in Culinary Arts in 2016. I then worked for and ran a few start-up restaurants in the Atlanta area. During the pandemic I was forced to sustain myself on catering alone because of the Country wide shut down and from there I said that I would open a place of my own.

What should our readers know about your business?
We are a full service restaurant that specializes in coffee and cocktails. We host live entertainment Wednesday through Sunday, Jazz and Blues genre. We open for breakfast in the mornings and serve Tapas in the evenings. Best days and times are currently Saturday and Sunday Brunch with live music 11am-3pm. On weekdays our neighbors will come in during the day and set up with their computers to work from home, take calls, and do their zoom meetings.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First and foremost she would more than likely be coming to work with me on a daily base to check-in with my staff as well as my regulars to ensure that the business is running properly. We would then be able to go off and enjoy the sights of the city. I have friends that I went to culinary school with here so of course we would visit their restaurants. At minimum, two of the days would be dedicated to pool and spa time. We would purchase days passes for the local W Hotel or St. Regis in order to visit the pool, have lunch, and get pampered in the spa. We would visit the Avalon for a day of wine drinking and shopping. In the evenings we would hang at the local cigar clubs such as Red Phone Booth and Chops. We would also be in attendance at any local venues that host live entertainment and serve great food such as Hals. If we have time and really are up for an adventure we would venture out to Little Five Points.
