We had the good fortune of connecting with K. Kenzie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi K., what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe that taking risk in the entertainment industry is vital. Although we may have doubts and fear, Artist never know what can come out of it. “You will never know, if you don’t try”, is what I tell myself. Taking risk has helped me on my journey. I moved to LA homeless, and I had my housing taken care of. I started writing and producing for myself, instead of waiting for someone to give me a role. I also started my own production company. Which is taking off extremely fast. Overall, I’m proud of the risk I’ve taken, and I believe others should as well.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started in this industry back in 2015. At just 19 years old, I was getting bookings for extra gigs for Hollywood movies. My senior year in college (2019), I decided to start making my own content. Which focuses on the black culture. I knew that’s what our people wanted and needed to see. In March of 2019, I created my first “short film” called “What Thea Wants”. The reviews were so good, that I changed it from a short film to a web series. After I put my first project out, I became addicted to creating my own content, which was the beginning of my love for writing. Since then, I’ve put out several projects under my own production company “Freestyle Filmworks. “What is Black Cinema”, “A Letter From Daddy”, “Brown skin Lens”, “HER”, and “Gemini”, are all short films that I wrote and produced in 2020. Which are available to watch on my YouTube Channel “K. Kenzie on Camera”. This journey has not been easy. The more projects I make, the more I learn about the behind the scenes, and business aspect. I’m most proud about how, no matter how many obstacles that I face, I always find a way to get over each hurdle. I love my hustle and drive. I know that I’m built for this, and I can never see myself giving up. I just want the world to know that, you should always follow your dreams, think big, and never give up on yourself, or your goals. No matter what, stay down until you come up, and never fold.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend was visiting Atlanta for a week, I would take her to Cam Kirt Studios for a Photoshoot, the art museum, Sivas, Juicy Crab, Slutty Vegan, JJ fish, and Allure.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Although this is a complicated industry, I’m blessed to have made it as far as I have so quickly. However, I couldn’t do this without the motivation of my family, my best friend Bri Martin, and my team Mykieya Potter, Danni Byrd, and Tre’ Hazelwood. They all have been on this journey with me.
