We had the good fortune of connecting with jyll hubbard-salk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi jyll, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
Being the parent of three bi-racial girls has always been a thing for me. I want to show my girls the importance of working and doing what you love. I have the only black owned yoga studio in Crown Heights Brooklyn. They have seen since day one the challenges of me having my business, especially since covid. I did not start my business until Indy my youngest was in school. I did feel the need to be present with my kids as they were babies/toddlers. Luckily I have a partner that supported me on that endeavor. I have showed them if you put in the time and the effort with some integrity, grace, and some humility, it will pay off.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well. never thought I was going to be a yogi, let alone own a studio in my community. I will state again, being the only black owned studio in my hood has been a challenge. I do not have a choice to be mediocre. I have to make sure everything is in place and proper. Someone is always watching and comparing. My truth is I am here doing what I love, and God has put me here to support and hold my community. I am honored and grateful to do just that. You can’t fake what is real….it’s an energy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I tend to enjoy low-key things. We would go get mani/pedis and go get body work done. Take a little stroll. Pop into the Brooklyn Museum perhaps. We would them dine at Cafe rue Dix for a yummy diner.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to give it up to my super diverse community. Talk about believing and supporting the little train that could. They showed up when the studio closed during covid. The showed up for the fundraiser…whatever we need they come through. I give THANKS
