We had the good fortune of connecting with Justina Dorion and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Justina, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is my visibility. I believe the more people that see me ( a young, black woman from the eastside of Atlanta), the more the thought will be provoked that “I can too!” And that could be partly because that’s what inspired me. Honestly, I think it’s something we take for granted nowadays with the butterfly effect of social media, but I still have hope that there are people out there who are dreamers, just like me, and love to see others being successful in their everyday lives and that alone motivates and encourages them. I’m here for those people. Those who don’t have to know me to feel the real me and support the moves I’m making. Because, you know for a lot of us (black people), it’s not taught, it’s not inherited, and its not passed down, but you know that you have a gift that God has blessed you with and it’s time to share that with the world.

I would be remiss if I didn’t give the biggest factor behind the importance of my success; my children. They make me want to be better, to blaze the trail so that they know with everything in them that they can be whatever it is that they put their minds to. Although cliché, the motto in our household is “when you put in the work behind the idea, success is yours!” I always tell my children, I can help you part of the way, but the other part will be your responsibility. So, with that, I have to keep living it so I can teach them how to do it themselves and be much bigger and better than me.

As far as my brand is concerned, the most important factor is doing it for myself and not placing any limitations on what this The Lash Temple ATL can be! I have lived my life with knowing that I have something in me that needs to come out, and even though my life has been good, it’s been very understated, in my opinion. But now I have something that I am passionate about and can see it years in the future, so I will work it until it becomes everything it’s destined to be. The Lash Temple ATL is meant to be big because it’s a true birth of creativity and I have very big plans for it, and so it has to work! We have no other choice but for it to work! Like, for real! This is it, lol!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Lash Temple ATL may just sound like any other eyelash extension business, but you can always book an appointment and see for yourself that it’s not. At The Lash Temple ATL we curate eyelash extensions that fit our clients individually. Eyelash extensions are very personal and should be framed appropriately to each clients preference and/or eye shape. This is one trait of The Lash Temple ATL that sets us apart from the rest. Also, I can say we pride ourselves in making sure all of our clients feel welcomed and important. I know I go to different businesses, big and small and I’m left in awe of the lack of customer service. I’m not sure if it’s just me, or maybe it could be I’ve held positions before where customer service is the crux of the position and it’s important how you make people feel. However, during your lash appointment with The Lash Temple ATL we are focused on you, your comfort and making sure you leave with a freshly curated pair of extensions that you love and make it easier for you to get up and go with one less step in the mornings, at least until your next appointment.

You know, I actually started doing eyelash extensions back in 2009ish, when I was young and didn’t have any examples of how to make a business out of my talents, so I stopped and took the more traditional route towards Corporate America (CA). And all the while I felt like I was trying to be someone I wasn’t. But, that’s what I’d seen, and very great examples had been set before me (my older sister Jamelia and my beautiful mom Lanitra who are still crushing it in CA), which I appreciate! But once again, that wasn’t where I was meant to thrive, and I guess you can say it took me until now to tap into myself, truly and authentically and decide that this is my niche and I will make the best of it for myself and my clients.

The biggest lesson that I’ve learned along the way is to be true to yourself. No one is you and that will always be your superpower! I love seeing other lash artist killing it in the beauty industry, and for once I don’t feel like I’m competing with anyone. I find myself happily walking in my own lane, pulling out my creativity with what I want to see The Lash Temple ATL grow into for the world to see, and it honestly surprises me that I am as creative as I am, as dedicated, and as passionate about this brand as I am. You see before I was doing what I thought was expected of me, but now I’m doing what makes my heart beat, and that’s how I know I will be successful with this. The Lash Temple ATL goes way beyond me, and I cannot wait to continue to curate a brand that will be world renowned.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Aye! That’s my best friend… I’m definitely taking my girl to The Lash Temple ATL to get a fresh full volume set and then we’re going to eat brunch at Breakfast at Barney’s (yum!). I’m having the shrimp and grits and I’d suggest the 24K gold pancakes for her because it’s simply the best! After that we’re putting her bags down at my place and heading across the street to Ponce City Market for some people watching, pop-tails at King of Pops and a little retail therapy at Reformation, Glossier, Sephora and Souk Bohemian. We are also old Atlanta, at least I am, so maybe a little chill time (nap) and watch a cute movie, have some wine and get girly for the night. We’re definitely going to DelBar for their high vibrational dinner and vibes and making our next move our best move to Therapy Lounge to reminisce on old ATL music and videos. The whole day is exceptional and crafted to a queens liking!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Love this! Absolutely I would love to give a huge BLACK shoutout to all my ladies who are bossing up and unselfishly sharing the keys to entrepreneurship and content creation. I see all of you, and you all allow me to dream past my own mental limitations. You have created a path of cushion for all of who are coming after you to do it with a little bit more ease and open dialogue to ask questions and gain knowledge where we can. But I have to shoutout my BIGGEST supporter, my husband and owner of Adjust Atlanta, Dr. Kendall Dorion. Thank you for always having my back in the most loving ways, for wanting to see me succeed, helping me put the pieces of this puzzle together and letting me know along the way how proud you are of me. I wouldn’t be able to make any of this possible without you, and that’s the honest to God truth. Thank you!
