We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
In my mind, that was the only option. I’ve been drawing since I was in kindergarten, so that’s all I know. I didn’t specifically know what job I wanted, though. I just knew that I wanted a career where I could consistently draw & be creative.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
During the day I am a tattoo artist. When I’m not tattooing, I also paint, create digital artworks, logos & flyers.
I am a tattoo artist & creative.
I’ve been tattooing for about a year & a half now at City of Ink Castleberry. As a tattoo artist I’m still studying my craft and learning as much as I can. Right now I am in the process of translating my art into custom tattoos.
I also paint & create digital artworks. My paintings are usually bright & bold. The focus is usually deals with black people, but I also like to branch out & create whatever I’m feeling in the moment. I like to embellish my pieces with text or different mediums like yarn, wood or cotton.
I moved to Atlanta with no job & at the start of COVID. My advice is to be serious about your goals, write them down on paper, and don’t get distracted.
I want the world to know that there WILL BE setbacks. Don’t let that deter you, keep pushing forward!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would check out Ponce City Market, the High Museum, etc.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
my stubbornness, my family, my friends, my City of Ink family
