We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Peay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Justin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve been filming weddings for over 10 years now, and there was a crossroads I came to in 2012: what do I name my company? At first I came up with a few names like “Four Eyes Films” and “Diamond Productions” (real clever stuff), but I eventually landed on using my name, Justin Peay Productions. I had no vision to grow it into what it is today. I thought that I would stay “lean and mean” for my whole life, because I always thought that bringing other people into my art would muddy the waters.

I couldn’t have been more wrong.

COVID-19 forced me to bring on several talented filmmakers and editors to work alongside of me, and it was the best decision of my life. I have since rebranded to Paros Films, and we have over 150 weddings booked just this year. The skill and perspective that each associate brings to the company is refreshing on so many levels.

So what started as my own business has now morphed into a collaboration of multiple creatives. Too bad it took me 10 years to figure out this is what I wanted.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think the one thing that sets us apart from other wedding filmmakers is we don’t use gimbals. Just kidding. Kinda. We really embrace the handheld look of a camera, because to me, it feels more lifelike. I know we all think wedding films are supposed to be this super polished, cinematic masterpiece, but in reality, that’s not reality. Weddings are generally pretty messy and take a lot of hard work to pull off. So we lean into the reality of what a wedding day really feels like.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Statesboro, which is about 3 1/2 hours from Atlanta, and though it maybe a small town, there are a lot of unique places for food and entertainment.

Three Tree coffee is the place for breakfast, Del Sur is the place for lunch (or really just tacos, which could be any time of the day), and Coconut Thai is the place for dinner. Honestly, I would just put this on repeat for the whole week.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to give credit to each one of my associates:

– Emma Peay
– Alan Black
– Ryan Callahan
– Hannah Jones
– Andrew & Emi Ward
– TJ Rosemond
– Chris Steinberg
– Jason & Casey Hurst

These are the real heroes. These are the ones that deserve all the credit!
