We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Larkin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The idea of combining our God-given talents and building upon the foundation of our friendship to serve others was the reason we started this business. Shortly after we met two years ago, we discovered that our interests in tech, investing, and, most importantly, our motives, aligned. We both shared ambitions to continue the legacy of those who influenced our upbringing. When thinking of a name to represent our mission, I turned to an old book of business ideas, and the first name I came across was “Jeanius Technology”—in honor of my late mother, whose nickname is “Jean.” Dennis reacted with surprise, as his late grandmother’s name is also Jean. This moment, for me, solidified the beginning of our partnership as everything fell perfectly into place.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Jeanius Technology is all about using technology to create solutions for our community. Our first product, launched this year, is an investing software called The Trade Jeanie that helps investors and traders develop and automate their strategies for buying and selling. This software not only saves users time but can also be a valuable tool for those interested in learning to trade. I believe what sets it apart is the freedom it offers to craft a strategy tailored to your lifestyle and knowledge. We calculated that there are over 1 million different strategy combinations that are possible with the Jeanie. Many trading products simply advise you when to buy and sell without explaining the logic behind their recommendations. With The Trade Jeanie, you can mix and match popular trading concepts to create a custom strategy, so you have full insight into the logic behind it.
Reaching this point was far from easy, but every challenge was worth it. I had been working on the software for two years before I met Dennis. I quit my 9-to-5 job, spent countless late nights at the computer, and devoted nearly all my time to developing this software. Initially, the feedback didn’t match the effort I was putting in, but my faith, patience, and appreciation for how God was aligning things helped me persevere. I learned that it’s not about what you’re doing, when you’re doing it, who you do it with, how, or where. It’s all about why. That “why” will get you up every morning and keep you going through adversity. Our “why” is embedded in our name. We’re reminded daily that our mission is to honor the legacy of those who paved the way for us by serving others and helping them create a legacy that will last for generations.

Business-Wise, we are far from our desired goal but we have come along way from the days of doubt and uncertainty. A couple of things that I am proud of is our perseverance in the face of those early challenges with trading, the struggles with simply fully understand the markets. I am most proud of the growth of not only the identity of Jeanius but the growth of our bond as a team, trusting and communicating with one another about any and everything. Building a company with someone that is like minded and share the same goals as well as morals has been a major key in our growth and success to this point.
Getting to this point wasn’t easy but it all has been more than worth it. A major lesson I would say that I’ve learned throughout our collaboration and building of Jeanius is the importance of trust and communication within any partnership. As stated before, this has been our key to growth thus far. Another important lesson that I’ve learned and still learning is to not stare at the clock and to also not compare your worth to the amount of support of you are receiving on your journey. Learning to remain focused on the task at hand, execute consistently, and trust in the timing of your arrival will allow you to flourish in the business even when everything isn’t always going your way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One thing’s for sure—we love our food halls, where there are plenty of restaurants to choose from (like Chattahoochee Food Works, Colony Square in Midtown and Perimeter, Halidom, Krog Street Market, and Ponce City Market). Just don’t be surprised if we pull out our computers to check stock charts while ordering 2-3 mocktails at the bar—LOL. I enjoy sports games, especially the Braves. State Farm Arena and Mercedes-Benz Stadium are also great places to catch a game. I like to walk or ride along the Atlanta Beltline, hike the trail at Sweetwater Creek Park, and just sit by the water. And if we’re in a social mood, spots like Spaceman Rooftop and the Vegan Social are fun places we drop by every now and then. There are plenty of events, festivals, and concerts happening year-round in Atlanta, too.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Of course, I would like to dedicate everything to my mom, ’Jean’, the inspiration behind all of this. She raised me to be the upstanding man I am today, laid the blueprint for being an entrepreneur and investing for generations. Everything she did was selfless and intentional to prepare me for life, so I will do everything in honor of her. Also, shout out to the Jeanius community, my co-founder Dennis for being one of the first to believe in me, Twan and Decori for helping us run the booth at InvestFest, and many others who have supported the ride along the way.

First and foremost I would like to give a shout to the heavens above to the person that fuels my “why”, that person is my late grandmother Anita “Jean” Smith. She was a pillar in my life, instilling in me the many morals that I carry throughout my life to this day. One of the most important lessons she has taught me is to remain strong and stand tall in the face of adversity, always. She is the architect behind my resilience. I would also like to acknowledge my Co-Founder Justin who has become a brother and sometimes a counselor along this journey. Justin and I support each other beyond the scope of the business. We push one another to be better men beyond the pursuit of success and hold one another accountable to maintain focus and integrity in every aspect of our personal lives. Last but not least, I would like to shout out every person that has ever supported and/or encouraged me along the way to this point. More specifically, my close friend Tarver. Tarver was someone that pushed me to get into trading/investing back in 2020. He is the reason that I am a walking the path of a trader. His push to get me evolved in trading was definitely a turning point in my point. It gave me a new purpose following a life changing event such as losing my grandmother, a time I became lost in what my was purpose was. So big shout out to Tarver for changing my life’s trajectory.
