Meet Juniah “Junie” Johnson | Baker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Juniah “Junie” Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Juniah “Junie”, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Honestly, it was not until recent years that creating a baking business was even a thought! I learned my love for baking at random, which, in my own opinion, is the most genuine way to find your love for anything in life. I truly found two main motivations that keep me in this business: my love for learning to new techniques/facts about this field & the happiness I bring to people just by providing my products to them. While people may think the baking field is “over saturated” simply because some recipes are commonly the same or are easily replicated, however, when it comes to the details, change of technique, adding or unadding an ingredient, etc, there will always be differences! It will always excite me that there’s more to learn, things to change, and more techniques/skills for me to acquire.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
While I am very new to this business, I will say I’m proud to have a true love for what I do, I’m not looking at Junie’s Kitchen as a cash grab. My passion for baking, and never looking at this job as actual work makes it truly worth every second. So far I’ve learned that in the new-age of business in general, the starting traction isn’t necessarily difficult, in fact my first month of being business was surprisingly very successful. I see that the challenge comes down to social interaction/ management; how often your posting, what you’re posting, what time of day you’re posting, and figuring out your audience. Having entrepreneurs as friends definitely helps with this challenge, as I’ve now tried to map out my month-to-month content, trying to incorporate both my work as well as my personal, just for my audience to get a feel of my personality and know who they are buying from, which I find very important.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When in doubt, a trip to New Orleans will solve anything! You can never go wrong being surrounded by amazing food, the beautiful city scenery, and very sweet people. Going to the French Quarter for local market shopping is always a must. Cafe Du Monde has the best beignets you will EVER have, no matter who tries to duplicate. And without a doubt, you can’t beat a walk around Bourbon Street, day or night time!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shoutout to my family and friends for all their love and courage to even step forward into this business, because I had really been holding myself back for a couple years out of fear of failure. Super thankful for the support of my Mom, Dad, Brother, and Husband for their push for me to push myself out there, try new things, and for their feedback on everything I ever make!
