Meet Julius Rowe | Musician & Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julius Rowe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julius, how does your business help the community?
I started rapping as a means to show the world what rap could really do for communities. At the time most people just rapped to look cool(you can can still see that today) and I remember some high school students showing me a mixtape of them rapping but everything they were rapping about was both negative and lies. The mixtape began talking about how many guns they have and people they could kill along with many types of drugs. I knew these kids, and they weren’t in to any of that and yet music had influence over their life. I began rapping to change that and show that you dont have to be a killer or a bad person to be a rapper and that we can use rap as a positive expression of influence. I later created Free Minds Productions to create a performing platform all around the country, to support artist who are honest and diligent with craft so that we can change the narrative for rap music and my culture of people who have been severely deceived by previous music.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My artist name is “EkaMan” (pronouced like echo, but echa) and it is latin derived and means “One Beyond Man”which i choose because it represents my life and art. As a 17 year old i found my self in a juvenile detention center for petty theft and realized that isnt what I want for my life. Reading a chemistry book in there i found that they used to name certain elements “eka” when they didnt know what to call it. Eka ment”one beyond” to explain it as one more beyond the previous element. Reading that I knew that i had to become beyond who I was especially if I want to make an positive impact in the world. Now my music reflects that. My music is filled with uplifting and triumphant beats match with hard hitting lyrics about overcoming challenges and finding whats important to you. I believe everyone has great power inside and we just need to tap in.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are probably eating in for breakfast but Im taking him to booja for lunch! Here in Charlotte theres a place called Booja that makes asian cousines like ramen the anime way! We would they head to Myrtle Beach to go Jet skiing and swimming. We’d check out the clubs and call it a night. I like anywhere active with friends. Other than that you can only catch me at home or performing somewhere typically . All hustle no luck.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shout to Lexington, Ky! Thats where the shows began and the support started! Its not a heavy music city but we made it work. Shout out to Apollo Z and Golden Rose Entertainment for all their support
And shout out to my son, because without him i probably would of given up in life.
